Do you pay per child per hour or just per hour?

I can't help you, as we have quickly discovered, babysitters are WAY out of our price range.
Everyone we asked quoted they usually get paid around $10 AN HOUR!!!!!!!

I've watched some friends kids and they all pay at least $7/hr... some up to $10. But for one kid $7/hr was minimum. I suppose that makes sense. When I was in HS I made $3-5/hr on average and that was 15 years ago ;)

I pay my kids $5 an hour to watch the younger ones. I pay others $8 because it is now only the younge 2 that need watched. We are definitely small town, though.

OMG, $10.00 an hour to babysit??
Are yall talking about full time child care or a couple night out with your friends/SO?

Thats just way to much, after taxes I dont even make $10.00 an hour!!!

My teenagers usually get around $10/hour to babysit. Some families pay less per hour and my teens usually leave it up to the families, but it's usually around $10/hour. It's for a babysitter for a night out--2-3 children, usually.

Thankfully my daughter (11) rarely needs a sitter now. I paid $5 to one sitter. She was an elderly woman that didn't drive so I drove my daughter over there and picked her up. When I had to have a sitter come to the house I paid them $7.

We use family usually...but once a month our gym offers parents night out/kids club. For $16, they watch both kids for 4 hours. The kids get to do rock climbing, aeroball, swim and soccer. They also get a snack. Non-members can also get this at $10 per child. Can't beat that. So DH and I try to schedule this night as our date night each month. Tonight we plan on doing some Christmas shopping. In December the offer extra times, daytime and evening, so parents can shop. :cool1:

Usually every weeked I babysit for 3 different families... usually one during the day on sat or sun and then one in the evening on sat and one in the evening on sun. So my weekends are usually booked... I just do my homework while I'm there or whatever. It's worth it though... I usually end up with just under $100 when the weekend is through. :goodvibes

$10 an hour, for my 5 (although my 8 and 10 year olds pretty much watch themselves).

I think I just discovered a great part-time job...and I am 48 yo!

I know!!!! I was shocked, I planned on spending about $5 an hour (if we picked up) and $6 if they drove, maybe a few $$ extra as a tip.

We only get the rare occasion when the grandparents ask, (which isn't often)

We pay $10/hour. I figure she's in charge of the safety of my children while I'm away. Plus the little one can be a PITA. ;)

$10 an hour is cheap around here. $15 is high. But this is for experienced sitters and not relatives or young teenagers.

My DD is a college Freshmen, and babysits occasionally for 3 kids who live near campus...7, 6 and 18 months, and they pay her $12/hr. I'm not sure what she gets for babysitting for her 8th grade English teacher's son (2), but they feed her, she spends the night, and she does her laundry there. :)

DD told me about this website, to calculate what to pay a babysitter:

http://www.sittercity.com/index.php?pid=rate_calculator

According to that website, $12/hr is pretty much on target for the 3 kids in that area.

When I babysit I always leave it up to the family to decide what to pay me. I figure I will get more money that way as I would be afraid to charge any more then 5 dollars an hour. Also different family's have different financial situations too so not everyone could afford 10 dollars an hour. Since that is just a way for me to make extra money I don't need to be making a fourtune. That being said if a family takes advantage of that and doesn't pay enough (keeping their finacial situation in mind) I won't babysit for them again. I'm talking about only paying 2-3 dollars an hour. It is best to have an idea about how much money I will be making if I'm commiting to something long term though. This summer my brother and sister and I agreed to baysit a family throught the summer for what usually ended up being ten hours days. We got payed 10 dollars a day. We were not happy about that but had already agreed to do it.
