cooking gas and electric per month? DBF and I are trying to make a budget so that we can move out, but as neither of us have lived on our own before, we have no idea how much those two things cost.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Totally depends on where you are living and how much electric you use, whether you even have a gas or electric stove, how big the living space is, how much you use the heating/AC....

If you live in a place with a gas heater, stove, water heater, etc: could be very expensive.

I have all electric, and I pay (as a fair estimate of average) around $110/month. BUT- I have a tiny house.

Usually, if you move into a home or apartment, someone can give you an estimate/average of what the past electric bills have been.

We're in central NJ, gas stove, small one bedroom apartment, heat and hot water are paid for. I know it varies depending on a lot of things, but we were just looking for some estimates. Thanks!

I'm in MA and have gas heat and cooking, electric everything else including for my dryer hookup. Obviously I use more gas in the winter with the need for heat, and then more electric in the summer for AC. I signed up both for a monthly budgeted amount so it just stays the same all year. It's reviewed every year but currently I pay $220 a month for gas and $120 a month for electric. Hope that helps and good luck!

We pay 15.00 a month for gas (only for cooking and the dryer)
180.00 a month electric
260.00 a month for heating oil

again it depends on what temp you leave your house at, etc..

I am in Texas and my average gas bill runs around $60 a month.. my hot water heater and stove run off gas.. everything else is electric.. Lately my average electric bill is $400-$500 a month.. Yikes!!

Depends on where you live and the efficiency of your house. We do not have gas in our house, only electric and up until recently we paid a lot of electricity. Last summer we were spending about $200 a month, but we recently replaced our AC/heat system and our new summer monthly bills are just about $100. So having an energy efficient system is saving us money, so it all depends on where you are living.

Like the others said, it depends on where you live. When I lived in FL my electric bill was upwards of $300 a month... and this was for a $500 one-bedroom apartment. Yikes!

Here in KS my last apartment the electric was about $130 a month, gas would be $6 in the summer (it was for heat only) and about $100 in the winter, but then the elec. went down to about $30, so the average was about equal all year. Now gas prices have gone way up, but my current apartment doesn't use gas and my electric has been about $40 a month. Yay for the electronic thermostat - I highly recommend one!!

You can call the electric and/or gas company and ask for a copy of the usage records for the past few years, that will give you a good indication of how much the bills will be. Keep in mind that you may use more or less energy than previous occupants, but you will get a good ballpark figure for budgeting.
