We live in Iowa. It's a pretty inexpensive place to live. But, we live in Iowa City, and it is the most expensive place to live in Iowa. We will get moved with DH's job and one possibility is Omaha, another is a small Iowa town. Can I tell you how much I want the small town? I'm just curious as to what other people in different areas of the country pay for different activities.

We pay:

Dance: 37.50 a month per child. This is only for 30 minutes of tap/ballet.

Piano: 94.50 This does include music. We had the option of going with $75 a month, but this way music is included, and we it's a bit more intese. When I was growing up we paid $40 a month for piano.

DS' soccer club is $35 for the year. Swimming lessons are like $25 a session (for 8 lessons) at our Rec Center.

Well in the ny metro area I am paying about $10 an hour or like $80 plus for 8 swimming lessons, bowling is $9.00 a week, that might be raised, its 3 games, shoes and no ball at the end, thats the cheapest program. Music - its the 1st year ds might do an instrument, its a private school, so we have to pay, they are group lessons I think, so its cheaper we havent gotten the notice yet, I think its no more than $10 an hour.

Currently we have 1 in violin lessons ($250 for twelve 1/2 hour lessons) and 1 in Kindermusic (about the same)

We have done gymnastics at $35 per month each.

But now DS5 is in soccer--$40 charge for the whole season.

Not too bad. But just wait until all 3 kids are in music lessons and a sport each---yikes.

I think the girls are more expensive--friends who have older girls who are in dance and/or cheer spend hundreds of dollars monthly.

Thank goodness we only have 1 DD :)

As I recall, it was $75 for fall soccer last year. Probably going to join an indoor pool to do swimming year round (not really sports, but still) and that'll be considerably more expensive, I'm sure. Swimming lessons are about $70.

We are paying $132 a month for four hours of dance. The kids each take two hours of dance each week.

We just moved to Virginia Beach and DS's soccer for the fall season is $75 and I was looking into swim lessons and I believe they were $50.

$ 45.00 for fall baseball (spring is $ 95.00). But then you got to add in equipment, trophies, snacks, etc.

Piano -- $90/hr with each weekly lesson being 3 hours(that's what happens when they get to concert pianist level, so think carefully when to tell your kids to practice!!!)
:p

Rep (travel) Hockey and rollerhockey -- each about $1000/season not including equipment and incidentals and travel costs of course

$95/month for dance-- 5 classes/wk 3- half hour and 2- 45 min

Kidzart-- $55/month

DD may be interested in Girls on the Run this year but they haven't started yet so I don't know the $ but last year it was around $225/semester.

I just shelled out about $300 for oldest son's football. That includes shoulder pads, practice jersey, cletes, and then the membership fee. The fee includes a loaned helmut and leg pads, and of course the uniform.

The younger one plays soccer, its $75 for 10 weeks. He is using his older brother's soccer cletes that he outgrew before he got to use them much, so I didn't have to spend money on that.

A LOT!!!!!!

KID #1

OLDEST DD DANCE/combined w/ youngest dd because it goes by the total number of classes per week per family---$225 per month
this is down from a high of $275 per month

DS'S JV ICE HOCKEY--FALL SEASON--$12OO

DS'S SPRING HOCKEY AND SPRING JV HOCKEY--$900

YOUNGEST DD'S FIGURE SKATING TRAINING
(she is training currently at a nearby rink and the University of Delaware Skating Center-Olympic level training center)

ONE HOUR LESSON WITH COACH #1 $60 PER HOUR times 3 times per week equals $180 per week times 4 weeks in month for total of $720 per month

NOW THE ICE TIME COST IS BY THE HOUR, YOU PAY FOR THE ICE IN ADDITION TO THE LESSON (lesson is paid to the coach, ice cost go to the figure skating club/rink) $10 per hour times 15 per week equals $150 per week times four weeks in month for total of $600 per month

ONE HOUR LESSON WITH COACH #2 $90 PER HOUR ONCE A WEEK TIMES 4 WEEKS EQUALS $360 PER MONTH

ICE TIME AT RINK #2 $18 PER HOUR AND A HALF TIMES FOUR WEEK IN THE MONTH EQUAL $72 PER MONTH

COMPETITION SKATING DRESSES AVERAGE COST IS ABOUT $250 TO $300 EACH INCLUDING ALL OF THE CRYSTAL WORK ON DRESS--ONLY NEEDED ONE LAST SEASON--THIS YEAR WILL NEED TWO

PROFESSIONAL MUSIC EDITING---ABOUT $200 PER SESSION/ONE SESSION PER PIECE

Need I say more.....................

last year I paid 50.00 for soccer for DD

This year DS13 is playing football, only cost was for shoes, school supplies the rest of the equipment, shoes were around 30-35. Had to pay 15.00 for him to be fed after 4 away games.(that is better then making 50 bologna sandwiches like i had to do when oldest DS played in 8th grade)

Dance for DD10 daughter this year will be 95.00 a month, that is for 45 minutes of ballet, 45 minutes of tap, 45 minuets of jazz, 45 minutes of modern, 45 minutes of clogging, 45 minutes of barre technique, and 45 minutes of hip hop. She is in the company classes so the barre class is mandatory.

This doesn't include the costumes i will need for her, they wear the same one for competitions that they do the recital. I will need either 5-6, depending if they do a ballet number, they haven't in years past, but are now getting to the age where they might. costumes each 40-75.

Ballet: $15/month
It is out of someone's home. No strict polices regarding shoes/clothes. DD is fine to go in socks (but we did purchase "cheapie" ballet shoes from Wal-Mart) For their recital (at a retirement home) they have a costume, but they are homemade by the teacher and she just reuses them every year.

Piano: $60/month
We have to purchase our own books. In the past, I scrapbooked someones Wedding Album in exchange for piano lessons.

Swimming: $40/10 days for 1 hour

As I sat at Karate last night I was feeling a little depressed and guilty about what we spend on it (as they added a new equipment requirement of about $100)

Now I realize that it is comparable to other kids' activities. We pay $100 per month, plus a bi-monthly testing fee of $40 per kid. Any tornaments run $35+ and equipment is ridiculously priced.

Happily, the kids love it and it IS, in fact, a very high quality program.

That's our big ticket activity. Scouts is a mere $55/year/boy (plus ALL of my free time;) and band lessons, halleluiah, are free.

OK, how do we afford all of this??? I have one in activities right now and if we still lived here when DD2 starts piano, etc. WOW. Some of you have to pay a lot of money for all the activities.

Lets see
Gymnastics for each child 14 weeks @ 130.00 each child
Swimming 7 weeks @ 70.00 dollars each child
Floor Hockey 8 weeks @ 30.00 dollars each child
skating 12 weeks 170.00 dollars each child

that is an example of whatr my oldest and youngest daughters do and my son who is only 1.5 does 2 ourt of the 3 so far. We also have to pay for skates helmets gloves and any other equipment they may need for the skating and floor hockey. Ice hockey will start for my son when he turns 3 he will start skatin in the fall with me at public skating. I started to skate when I learned how to walk so it is only natural I get him out as soon as possible.

We pay $200 total for family for dance classes which breaks down to:

DD1 (13 & dance company member) - 2.5 hrs of clog,tap,jazz & lyrical, 1 hr of ballet, 2 hours of acrobatics.

DD2 (10) - 45min of hip hop and 1hr of acrobatics

Me - 30min of clog

We also pay for instrument rental for school DD1, flute - $37, DD2, drum & bell kit - $27.

Like PTcruisermom said this does not include costumes, competition fees, registration, shoes, etc....

Proud Wife of a 4ID Soldier!
WE GOT HIM!!!

Piano - $20 per 30 minute lesson.
Flute - $20 per 30 minute lesson.
Guitar - $20 per 30 minute lesson.
Soccer (which we no longer do) is roughly $90 per season. I quit doing that because the league was so poorly organized I couldn't stand it.
Drama - $85 per month for each child plus each child pays a $50 theater fee.
School Band (private school) $75 per quarter.
