OK, so, aside from souvineers...
if you have the dining plan, (and tips at 18%)
how much would you expect to spend in addition to that daily???
My mom is at disney right now for ONE week with the dining plan, and she called yesterday and told my sister that her and her husband have already spend over 2000.00,,,, is that realistic??? It is just 2 adults.... That seems REALLY high for me.

My family of 4 doesn't spend $2000 in two weeks at WDW and that includes meals [no the meal plan]. I think that's pretty high. S

That seems high for me as well- our family, Dh, DM, DD and I did not spend that much in one week and we were one the dining plan.
Extra food, drinks etc was approx $10 per person per day while on the meal plan.
We did spend on souvenirs and memories - photos, BBB for DD etc.

for food and snacks, over and above the base dining plan, I'd expect daily expenses of about $10 - 15 per person.

Not $2000 that's for sure. When we did the dining plan in 2005 we ate breakfast in the room most days, CS for lunch and TS for dinner. We did buy the occasional drink in the parks on top of the snack credits. If you're not buying souvenirs then the only way I can think of to spend that much money is on high-end wine or maybe they ate at all signature dining and had to buy other TS meals.

There were four of us and I think we spent an extra $20 or $30 a day as a group. I think we only spent about $300 on souvenirs. Don't worry Disney isn't pricey but it's not that expensive.

What the heck has she bought as souveniers ?

I thought I spent alot lol. We went 2 times with the dining plan. Once was just 2 adults and a 2 yr old. We did a few meals out of pocket, 2 cakes, BBB, and bought a ton of stuff and we spent about 2000.00

When we went the other time we had 2 adults, 15 yr, 14 yr, 12 yr and 3 yr. We spent maybe 20.00 a day on extra snacks, each kid had 20-30 per day of their own spending money and Dh and I spent maybe 500.00 each. We were there 10 days. so we didn't even spend 2000 that time either.

$2000.00!!

I'm bringing just over $1000.00 for may whole vacation and that includes a cruise. I think Disney is the type of place where you can choose to spend a whole lot (as above!!) or keep it reasonable and be able to afford to go back more often. That's the approach I'm taking

Thankyou all so much, I am a pretty econonical kinda gal... I run on the verse of .. if we dont need it.. we dont get it. I have already prebought alot of things for the trip (small kettle for hot cereal in our room for breakfast) and a local store here had a super sale on some disney things that I thought the kids would like, so I picked them up ($3.00 and $1.00 for Disney t-shirts, you can't go wrong with Tinkerbell) I would imagine I will get asked my dd(8) to buy at least ONE stuffie... but my oldest DD (18) will have her own money and she is just like me... dont spend it if you dont have too (we are the best window shoppers in the world)

I am pretty positive that during their dinners there would be some bar charges on their tab, which makes a HUGE difference from having to only pay for your tip.. to having to pay for your drinks and then your tip as well..

I just thought that it was way high, and I certainly didnt want to be stuck running out of cash on our trip.... Egads:confused:

We spend 500 a week including food and usually do not exceed 1000 dollars for 2 weeks this includes our drive and hotel stay for the drive down so 2K in a week is EXCESSIVE.

We spent $800. in a week on extra food, souvineers, and alcholic drinks :) This was our first time, so we did buy alot of extra souvineers that next time we probably won't buy. Ohh, and also, we bought EVERY picture that was taken on the rides- that really added up!

$2000 wow!!!!! She must have bought some high end stuff. Our last vacation we spent $1300 in two weeks but that was a few expensive crystals for Amy's collection, some Christmas gifts for some Disney fans we know and the normal t-shirts and trinkets.

You can spend as little as you want or go crazy, it's up to you. We were on the old dinning plan so this time we are going to have to add the tips and apps. to that bill.

Chris.

$2000.00 WOW!!

DH and I have just returned from 5 days at WDW with the dining plan. We had alcohol every night with dinner and usually ordered one appetizer also. It usually cost us somewhere between $25-30 per night plus the tip of usually $20.00 .....so approx $50.00 per day. Then a few alcohol drinks during the day or evening so...another $25.00. So.........grand total of $75.00 per day extra. Plus we spent a whopping $150.00 on souveniers.

The total amount that we spent with our airport parking and food at the airport etc. etc. was $600.00 and that is probably a little on the high side.

Whew!!! $2000 sounds like a small fortune to me! We were there last August for 5 days 4 nights on the dining plan, and I know there have been some changes since then, but for the 5 of us for the entire vacation we spent less than $500 total. Mind you, we were on a budget, but even if we weren't, I can imagine spending FOUR TIMES that for just 2 people! This year I have started saving more and earlier, so I hope to have more to spare, but my goal is to keep it under $1000 for the week, and that takes into account the increased $$ for tipping, and the fact that even with the DDP we were perpetually starved last year due to not having a lot of $$ to pay out of pocket....

I thought you were talking about the trip cost. $2000 just on food and stuff?! Did that include park tickets? Holy Hannah, that's a lot.
