How much do portraits run?

SO and I were thinking about getting "Nice" couples portraits done and have no idea where to get them done, or should we hire a photographer and go to the beach or the bridge, a park?

Is it in the thousands, hundreds, what, I haven't a clue...

You could probably get one in the low hundreds and up (Depending on how many pictures you end up purchasing). IIRC that is about what our engagement photos cost about $100 and that was a location shoot. We were given the proofs and negatives and then just enlarged what we wanted to use for our official photo and a photo store (It had to be digitally enlarged to the size we wanted so was about $50 to digitize and then maybe $25 for the sheet).

In studio--portrait sittings run about $80-90 and up with or without proofs...then you would pay the costs of the pics...about $15 and up depending on the size and the quality of the photographer (an 8x10 will cost a lot more than a 5x7 for example).

Your mileage may very depending on the community you live in of course.

For ultra cheap, Sears occasionally runs about $10 for a portrait package which usually includes 1 8x10, 2 5x7, 4 4x6, and a gazillion wallets. You have to choose one pose though for all of them. Otherwise it's usually $6-10 per sheet. I say "ultra cheap" but I've ALWAYS been happy with my pictures from Sears. I've never been photographed there though, only my children.

For a private photographer around here to do a nice portrait of me and my daughter at a park or on the beach runs 250.00-350.00....Sears you can do with a fake background for 10 bucks!

Like those above, you can find cheap photographers at Wal-mart and sears for Low Low prices that are OK, and decent, and of good quality. However if you are looking for something more striking, more intimate (not like that ) you can expect to pay a bit more.... UNLESS... You find a student photographer.

Some student photographers are reasonable, heck even FREE and will do what's called time for pictures. or Time for CD's in which case you could take to your local Walgreens and have them print it out on quality paper etc. Something to think about. Also check out Craigs list. Good Luck, I think you two are a beautiful couple.

If you and your SO has a special place that you meet, had a special occassion happen, it would be nice to have a location photo and that would put more meaning into your picture.

If you can afford it I´d go with a nice photographer. Great pictures are worth more than gold. Good luck with your decision.
