How much do ponchos cost in the parks?

I just hold an umbrella above my wife's head. My son then holds an umbrella above my head. He wears a good rain hat. We get a lot of stares

Like another poster said, unless you just want the Mickey ones, the walmart ones are the way to go. We have tons of them we take to keep from spending so much on ponchos every trip. If they don't rip, even the cheap can be reused. I don't think we've ever had a trip where it didn't rain at some point.

It seems to me that if you have tons of cheap ponchos, then you've probably spent as much (if not more) on cheap ponchos than the better quality Disney ones would've cost.

I guess "tons" may be a relative term.

We bought 8, maybe 10, that we reuse. For my family, to buy 5 at Disney is almost $50!

We love the Mickey ponchos. I feel the quality is very good compared to the cheap ones you buy in the discount stores. We buy them once and simply keep them from year to year. I keep them in my suitcase at home so I always have them ready for next year's trip. We had our old yellow ones for at least 5-6 trips before one ripped.

We just returned from our trip today! I thought they were all $9.

This was our first time buying the ponchos and I have to say the quality is terrible. We had quite a few times we used them. I'd guess each of the kids ponchos were exchanged 2-3 times. The adult ones never ripped. The worst was a child you carry. Pick them up wrong and half the poncho rips off. I think I would have preferred the dollar store ones.

The cheap ponchos can work quite well, although I did have an experience at AK when a dramatic thunderstorm led to massive sheets of pouring rain.

People ran into stores to buy the Disney ponchos, while I pulled out my $1.50 version from Target, quite pleased with how I smart I was to have planned ahead. Then I stepped outside.

The howling winds were blowing the water sideways and upwards, and my thin trash-bag poncho flapped everywhere, blowing up and down. I couldn't keep myself covered at all and ended up looking like I had jumped into a pool. I guess too-thin doesn't work that well in heavy winds.

If you have tons of them, you would have been better off spending the $10 on a Disney poncho and reusing them. The Walmart/Dollar Store ones are crap and are so thin the water seeps right through. They are also one use only.

It is more about the size of carting them around than anything else. We had 11 people last trip and 11 of the ponchos fit into 1 gallon ziplock bag with room left over. We used to go frequently enough that a case of 50 from Amazon costs $44.95 and I have plenty left over for baseball games, soccer games and they are small enough to slip into the back pocket of jeans or shorts. A single reused Disney poncho is one gallon bag by itself. I know, I have many of them in bags in my closet. It isn't worth the suitcase space to take them down again.

I am leaving for Disney tomorrow and I have 3 ponchos in a one gallon ziploc bag. I even had enough room to add my son's stroller cover in the same gallon bag.

I was pleased w/ the quality of the ones we bought at Disney 3-4 years ago. Two of my kids used them for multiple rainy days at week long summer camp, and they held up. Can't find them for our upcoming trip, so we're bringing disposable dollar store ones. We'll see how the cheapies compare. Although if the rain is heavy, I won't hesitate to buy another Disney one.

Agree with this statement. We had a steady rain last year and the walmart ones were awful. If you took them off when you got on a ride, they rippped. They were too thin and didn't protect much. I think I would have been better off getting a heavy duty trash bag and cutting a hole in the top.

Does Disney still allow you to trade in a ripped pancho for a new one? They used to YEARS ago. Oh how I miss the yellow mickey mouse ponchos. My family used to love saying loudly to our own family "Hey you with the yellow mickey poncho" and watch everyone turn around.

We still have our original yellow ones from our first trip in 1995. They come back with us every year, shows how well they last. Every time I see an original yellow on eBay I buy it!

This thread inspired me - I just went on Amazon and got a youth-sized princess poncho for $6.77 and 2 adult Mickey ponchos for $6.77 each. All free shipping (even though the items weren't Prime-eligible). Do a search, you may find a gem.

Sure, it only shaves a couple bucks off of buying them in the park, but you get more design options and can pack 'em ahead of time!

Does anyone know if they will exchanged an old yellow Mickey one that finally ripped for the style in the shops now? Or are they only exchanging new style for new style?
