We are trying to decide on restaurants for our upcoming trip, but we haven't traveled with children yet.

How much did your 2 1/2 year old eat? Are they able to eat off your plate and be satisfied or did you order a childs meal for them?

Do you think two 2 year olds could share 1 child meal?

Thanks!!!

the kids meals are sized to a toddler IMO. My 2yr old is a light eater and ate the kids meals and was completely satisfied. My 4yr old ate his and stuff from everyone else as well. ;)

I'd get the kids each their own meals.

HTH!

Our DD just turned 2 but we've traveled to WDW with her twice and I think buffets are your best bet budget-wise. The toddler will be free and you have lots of choices. I'm not a big buffet fan but I do find them to be the better option with kids. I am also particular about what I want DD to eat so I pack her snacks and meals for for the most part (we stay DVC so we have a kitchen) and then when we eat I give her a little off our plates. She is a very good eater and loves her fruits and veggies. I think it's totally dependent upon the kind of child you have and what their eating habits are like on a normal basis. If it were us, DD and I could most definitely share a meal....have fun!!!

Certainly my dd at that age (and younger) got through her own childs meal and would never have had enough sharing with me (well she would have had enough but I would have been left starving!!!!!).

Totally depends on your kid. I anticipate my 6yo will eat all of her macaroni and cheese, 2 ounces of chocolate milk, and no sides, and be full. When she was 2, she'd eat about 1/4 of a macaroni and cheese, 1 ounce of chocolate milk, and no sides, and be full. But she's always been a grazer, and never eats big meals, even without grazing opportunities. (It's not unusual for her to have a slice of buttered bread with no crusts for breakfast at 7:30, and then just a carton of milk and a bite or two of the entree for lunch at school at 11:30.)

KIDS DO NOT EAT IN DISNEYWORLD!!!

This is my tip from what I noticed last year. My DD who was 3 at the time barely ate a thing in the restaurants - there was just too much going on.

However, when we got CS from the hotel and brought it back to the room , she ate fine.

I was observing others and found that DD was really not the only one. Mnay kids were just too distracted to eat.

Have fun!!

I would just go by what you do at home. In other words if you go out to eat, do you need to order the 2 y/o a meal or do you just share yours. Or if you go out to eat with two 2 y/o's can they get away with sharing?

For us if we're doing something like Mc D's (or other counter service fast food type of place) I would need to order the kids meals, but at a traditional restaurant where servings tend to be larger I could share mine with 1 child or split for 2 of mine. They are average eaters at meals and prefer snacking, so I take this into consideration before I order something. If I have something that's extra and easily portable (crackers, bread, chicken nuggets, fries, fresh fruit, cookies) I will pop extra in a ziplock (I always carry several) and they can finish their meals later when they are less distracted.

Good luck with the planning. :thumbsup2

DGS (2 1/2) and I are both light eater and I never get him his own meal except sometimes at a fast food place i get us both a kids meal and he NEVER eats even half. Sometimes I will add a extra side but we always have way enough.
He however LOVES buffets and will match any teen on his eating there????

We also share if we get ice cream or a treat. If we need more food we will get it.

DS, now 27 months, doesn't eat almost anything. We're lucky if he will eat more than 1 mickey waffle at breakfast buffet. That said, buffets have always been easiest for us because we can always find SOMETHING that this kid will eat w/o having to worry about paying more.

It really depends on your child. My oldest would eat a kid's meal plus half my plate at age one. (The waitresses always looked at me like I was nuts ordering a kid's meal for this skinny little baby and then were amazed when they saw him eat!). At age 2 and 3 he could just share off my plate.

I found both my boy's eating habits changed drastically month to month. They phased in and out of barely eating or eating everything in sight!

I agree that it depends on your kids. With the amount of food you get, I would think you could get one kids meal and with all the food in an adult meal, have plenty for both kids unless they are very big eaters. You could always buy an extra side too if you wanted.

We just got back on 5/17 and have three kids. Usually the two boys especially are great eaters, but with the heat and everything going on, not one meal was there not leftover food. The older two kids got kids meals and the 1 year old just shared from everyone. No one went hungry! There was always extra. Many meals I think instead of three adult meals and two kids meal for the six of us we could have gotten by with two adult and one kids meal!!

Buffets or family style are especially nice as both kids will be free to eat whatever they want.

It totally depends on the child. I would suggest doing what you do at home.

My DS is 5 and is a grazer. I still rarely order him his own meal. To start with, he doesn't really eat most of the offerings (mac & cheese, chicken fingers, pizza, etc) - he wants my steak or pasta! We always do just find sharing at table service meals. For counter service, we will split a sandwich and order extra fruit or some other side.

I agree with pp that it depends on the child. At buffets, my son (2 at the time) would eat off of our plates and get full. During certain meals (when we knew he wouldn't eat items that we ordered---steak, seafood, etc..) then we would order him a kids meal. Overall, he ate a bit less than normal (there were times when the 3 of us could share one CS meal).

My (then) 2 year old ate more then my 27 year old girlfriend. She has daddy's appetite. Theres NO way she would have shared off my plate
