In MS and AL? I have to admit that I have spent most of my time following the NO stories. I have heard/seen pictures of the areas in MS and AL that were beachside that have been destroyed but I haven't heard much about how others that are further inland faired. Did the severe damage extend inland? I have just read some reports about power being restored in some areas in MS and AL but I am going to have to pull out a map to see where they are located. Thanks for any update.

Biloxi and gulfport....are...gone! :guilty: :guilty: These people are in dire straits but they are not getting the same coverage b/c

1. They are not in a "bowl" and the flood waters are receding
2. There are not "thug" gang members raping, killing and looting everything

Coastal MS and AL have been destroyed. They are searching through rubble to find bodies.

Yes, I was aware of that. I just haven't heard much about any of the towns inland. I know when a few of the hurricanes came here last year (FL) they did some considerable damage inland. I hadn't heard that about this storm but didn't know if it was because there was so much focus on NO that I missed it.

New said that total destruction in MS went up to I-10. I don't think AL was quite as bad, but Mobile had lots of damage for sure.

Thanks! I did finally pull out a map and found a couple of the other cities I had been hearing about that I wasn't familiar with. Horrible thing for everyone.

I live in northeast MS (or inland as you said) and we suffered very little damage which I am grateful for. Most of the areas lost power for a couple of days. We didn't though. Although my sisters (they live about 10 min. away) lost power for 2 days. :confused3 We received the bad tropical rainstorm and severe winds. Most of the businesses, all of the schools, and most of the daycares, etc. closed due to how intense the storm was. The wind was over 80 mph if I remember correctly. A lot of trees and limbs fell but in our area they were cleared out fast. So all in all, the northern part of MS really did not suffer. People did panic over gas though and we were out of gas in our town and the surrounding towns for a couple of days. We have quite a few shelters set up here that currently are housing those from coastal MS and AL and NO. But anyway, no not all of MS suffered, but yes, the southern portion was completely destroyed! Please keep all of these people in your prayers. I met a man from NO today who is now homeless. He and his wife are just thankful they are alive! It is refreshing that he had such a great outlook but it is heartbreaking to know they lost everything! And it really bothers me that I can't do more than I am already doing to help. I am trying to donate clothing and things like that. Sadly, I don't have the resources that are required to do more so I hope any of you that are able to help and donate to those that suffered will!

Does anyone know of any news out of Houma, LA??? I haven't heard a peep about them in all the news coverage I have watched. My college roommate was from there. The town is small but not tiny either. Since it is further south than NO...I wondered how they fared.

Coastal Alabama was certainly not destroyed. In fact, this weekend the beaches are open for the Labour Day crowds.

To the poster about Houma. They had little damage and flooding. Which was wonderful for them. They have been getting power since Tuesday and I think they are mostly up and running. They have taken in many refugees and Terrebonne Parish is helping out trememdously from what is said on Houma/Thibodaux radio.

Here is a paper from Houma, maybe this will have some info.....

Good to hear you fared pretty well, Tasha+Scott.

I have some friends who live on Mobile Bay. Their house was completely destroyed! :guilty:
