I know I shouldn't pack too much but how much exactly for a child on a 7 day cruise? do they change clothes for dinner at the clubs? I don't want to wash but don't want to bring too much? during august- do they need long pants/jacket?

I just returned from a 3 day cruise with my 8 yo granddaughter. I can not advise as to the amount of clothes (3-day verses 7-day) but maybe my input will be helpful:

The best item that was taken was a “dressy” full-length sweater. She wore it each night to dinner. She even had me paged from the kid’s center to bring it there! Yes, she’s cold natured but I saw many children with a light jacket or sweater.

Since I insist bathing suites to be FULLY washed after each swim, I’m glad she brought three. A cap was very appropriate for the beach – so hot and sunny that day!

I failed to anticipate the chocolate syrup on the dress-up attire, I wished we had packed an extra “Sunday” outfit.

Hope this helps.

You didn't say how old your children were, but on the 7 night cruises there is formal and semi-formal night. The boys should at least have long pants and a nice shirt.

Depending on what you are doing...swim trunk/suit with a tee or cover-up will probably be what they where on sea days..all day.

For dinner, yes, the kids do dress for dinner..boys..khaki pants and polo shirts..just like the dads. Girls, little sundresses or capris and tops, just like the moms. If pants..try to get a couple basic colors and then mix/match the tops. You can pack less that way. Try to find one pair of dress/nice casual shoes for a boy, sandals that match each outfit for a girl.

I wouldn't worry about washing..just send it out and let disney do the washing if you run out of clothes..so easy, and so much better than wasting your vacatoin time in the laundry room.

The kids do dress up on formal night.

I totally agree. I'd rather pay to have someone do my laundry than sit in a hot laundry room -- that is, of course, if you can even get in to do a load of laundry.
