How much cash to bring into park each day?

I was reading the pick-pocketing thread and that got me thinking that we should leave most of our money at the hotel. We are staying onsite, so I think we can charge most everything.

At what places can you NOT charge items to your room, including places in DTD?

How much cash would you think one would need?

Is a credit card necessary?

Would your driver's license be necessary at all? Do you need any form of ID when in the parks/ DTD?

Thanks!

We needed to show our drivers license alot when using a credit card. NOt always, but alot of the times. I never thought of taking the one with our photo on it, I'll do that next time.

As for cash, we pretty much charged everything. But you'll need cash for "snacks and drinks" at the carts. I think (but not sure they only take cash). Everywhere else we went took credit cards. So I guess depending on how big your group is judge how much you might need. I think we took like 40 or 60 for the 3 of us and rarely used half of it.

I don't bring cash with me. I use my debit card and Disney Gift Cards for everything ~ even tips, Churros & Dole Whips!

Don't know if it matters, but when I said "charge everything", I meant "charge everything" to the room.

I personally like having cash on my when I travel, but I spread it around.

I put some in this pocket. Some in that pocket. A little in my bag. Hubby carries some. This way, we have quite a bit available to us, but no major loss should something happen to a pocket, jacket, bag, suitcase, etc....

fyi, that pickpocket thread is from 2007, it's NOT recent!

I always have my drivers license on me, you never know when it will be needed. Most shops do ask for ID when using a cc as well. And yes, we have PAPs with our names & photos and they still ask for ID. We split the money so each of us is carrying some, but really we don't worry about it. The carts don't take cc's or room keys so you will need some cash for those, but everything else can be charged to your room. At least as far as I can remember. :)

I am pretty sure you have to have a driver's license for any purchase over $50. Just about anything else and they just use the credit card without ID.

I carry my DL, 1 Credit Card and about $20 in cash. This way I am covered for anything, but I almost NEVER use the cash. Well....unless I am going to DTD for some Kettlecorn! Mmmmm....I love kettlecorn!

Hi there,

For me since i pay with everything in cash except dinner (BB) I bring about 120bucks per day for a family of 4 . The reason i do this is it helps me budget my trip out better for me. If i dont use all of it up it goes towards the pot for the next day and we can splurge on the very last day we are there. I have heard about the pick pocketing and the best thing I can tell you is have a back up plan dont bring all your money with you at once. Keep a back up credit card and cash in the hotel in a safe if possible. keep your wallet in your front pocket. I have never had an issue with this but i have been to diffrent parts of the country that was a big concern with pickpocketers. You can also get a fanny pack I see alot of people doing that. I hope this helps you out.

We charge everything to our CC that gives us money back. So we bring very little cash with us. Maybe $40 or so. We usually don't buy things from the small snack cards so we often don't end up using it all. I also always make sure I have my drivers license and my med. insurance card- just in case. Oh, and I bring my AAA card too. I believe there are places in DTD that will give AAA discount. So I bring it just in case.

As a rule of thumb, I start stuffing cash into my wallet at a steady pace until I start crying from thinking about how much the vacation is going to cost. Then I know I have enough for a trip to the parks.

There is no right or wrong answer: everybody has a different amount that will make them cry.
