How much can you make ebaying?

you haven't earned a profit so you don't owe any taxes.

This would only actually work if you are filling out a schedule C, have your old receipts and, and can subtract your costs...therefore showing a profit or lose. Although the IRS seldom bothers anyone when it's obvious they are selling their own personal items. they can and may ask you to prove it. As far as the IRS is concerned, without a schedule C, everything you sell on eBay is considered profit..you can't even take off your selling costs, without that schedule C. I say this, just so you are aware. Most of us don't have receipts from last years out grown winter cost to show.

Yes! I have paid for a disney trip with selling things on ebay. I started this past Nov. and by Feb. 1 had paid for my Feb. trip. Hotel room (pop cent.), tickets, and airfare. What a deal! I just sold things around the house (esp. clothing that didn't fit anymore). I say go for it. I have a bunch of girls clothing up know and it's doing very well. I sell individually but am offering a shipping discount if they win more than 1 of my auctions. This helps in the overall shipping cost for the buyer and sells more of my stuff.

Well... I haven't earned enough for a trip yet, but I am earning. I've had about 50 auctions sell since November and made a total of $200. Most of it was little stuff I had lying around that I didn't want, and that was listing about 5-10 items a week around vacations and moving and whatnot. Not bad for the amount of time I put into it! Once we move again I'll have more time to dedicate and will list a lot more stuff.

I just started putting things on for our August trip last week friday and by todays end I will have about $150. That's one park ticket down. I have other stuff up for bid now that end in the week and some of those have bids, so I'm after park ticket number 2. It may not pay for my trip as I have a lot of people to pay for. Me my DS 8, DD 11, and my baby. Then my DSis and her then 5 kids DS 13, DD11, DS 9, DD 2and DS 1 1/2 months by then.
But ebay will help pay for a lot.:Pinkbounc

You could do a search of completed auctions if they would come up - I just had about 25 beanie auctions up (same user name as here) and about 1/2 of them went. Some at a loss, some at a profit. A gal from here sent me a book so I could accurately describe the tag generation in the auction. So don't expect to get rich but it would at least bring some extra cash in for you. I believe I took in about $128 on the ones that sold. That is several meals for DD and myself at Disney!!!

I personally had NO luck selling the Beanies. I grouped them in sets (rabbits, bears, dogs, etc.) and started the auctions at $3.99 for three, got no bids. I also tried to sell my Mcd's complete sets from the first year they did it until last no. No luck! I did put them out at my garage sale and sold about 10.

In general, what type of stuff sells best? Toys, clothes, books, new used, etc. I have a ton of books I'd like to sell, and I wonder if they'd sell better on EBay or Amazon.com. So far, I've listed two books and one DVD on Amazon just to get the hang of it. No response so far. Its a lot easier and less expensive to list on Amazon for books and tapes.

I had a whole rubbermaid bin full of beanies. I knew they wouldn't sell and I didn't want to waste my time (and money) listing them. I tried to donate them to the pediatric floor at the hospital, but they wouldn't take them. I ended up donating them to a lady's church from work.

In my experience, Kids clothes sell really well. I have had better luck with USED clothing rather than NWT. Brand names like GAP, OLD NAVY, POLO, HILFIGER, NAUTICA, etc. tend to sell best, but I've also been sucessful with OSH KOSH, HEALTH-TEX, etc. too. Boutique stuff sells well also, like Kitestrings and Heartstrings, those kind of labels.

I haven't had very good success with toys, unless they are toys that you really can't find very often. I sold two tub toys last month...both Sesame Street toys and both were purchased through Avon several years ago. I put them up on auction for $2. and they ended for $31!! I couldn't believe it!

I just recently started having better luck selling my own used clothing. Again, name brands seem to go better and for more $$. I sold 2 Lands End swim suits for a lot of $$ last month (I don't know that I would buy a used swimsuit off of eBay, but to each his own!)

What I do is I look to see what I want to get rid of in my house. Then I look it up on eBay to see if anything similar is listed. I look at the ending auctions, to see if things are moving and for how much. Then I get an idea of what I can get rid of my own stuff for!

Good luck! It's alot of fun, but also very addicting!;)

I've been selling on ebay for a couple of years now. Not as much as before because I was burnt out for awhile. Tired of packing boxes!!

I now sell my daughter's outgrown clothes twice a year. I prefer listing one big auction. I may make less, but it saves me time by only having one box to pack, rather than 10. Shipping has gone up so much that it has hurt the sales. If I make $150.00 then that money I have for this year's new clothes.

Books are hit or miss. Bestseller's are best - because that's what people want to read. I buy my book club books on ebay and then sell them right back when I'm done reading it!! Children's books also do very well. And media mail shipping is a whole lot less.

I agree with those who say check out an item on ebay first to see if it's worth selling. I've done that. If others can't sell something I want to sell, then I don't waste my time trying either.

My DH and I are guilty of spending our earnings on ebay as well. So, we haven't made much money for vacation at all.
