at the theme parks and are they any better than garbage bags with heads?

No really are they descent quality or are they the average thin plastic ponco they have at our local kids atttraction park.

thanks in advance Dave Goofydad Dionne

$7 for adults, $6 for kids.

They are better quality than the ones you get at Walmart for a couple of dollars IMO. We had some of those and they tore the first time we wore them. The Disney ones seem to be stronger. I have never bought one at another theme park, so I can't compare that.

They are quite sturdy. We have had ours for about 4 years now - and we have used them over & over.
:thumbsup2

I buy the 99 cent Coleman ones at CVS, and we toss them after we use them. They are packaged nicely, quite small, and fit easily in our backpack.

We did buy the "sturdy" Disney ponchos one year, then left them to dry in our room. The next day we forgot them, and ended up buying another set at Epcot!

The 99 cent ones are simple - for the simple-minded, such as myself!

I bought one and they were nice. Better than the ones you would get at the $ store. The one I got was clear with Mickey on it. I still have it. I did buy some for our up coming trip that I could toss if it rained.

I miss the yellow Mickey ponchos. My last yellow poncho finally died this last trip. Disney replaced the 5-year-old poncho with the clear version.

Did I mention I miss my yellow poncho?

Yes, the Disney ponchos are much stronger/nicer than the cheapy ponchos from Wal-Mart, Dollar Store, etc.

I've bought some cheapies for the daily brief rainstorms. If a tropical depression (or worse!) moves through, we'll definately be buying Disney's ponchos. I bought the cheap ones because then we can toss them when we're done. But for a good soaking, we're going the Disney way!

This was the first year we purchased one, as we lost one of our 99 cent ones, and Enesto was giving us enough showers to need one. Surprisingly, it did a goo job of covering our 6'5" 275 # pirate. Yes they are sturdy, and Large enough to do some good.

I strongly suggest picking some up at the dollar store, Wal-Mart or Target before you go!!

Yes the WDW ponchos are nicer than the dollar store/Target/Walmart cheap type.
We like the dollar store type so that I can throw them away when we are done and not lug it around with us all day. We often go off season and get a significant rain shower each day, and then it gets sunny and we toss our ponchos.
I miss the yellow WDW ones too! It was fun to see the big crowds of yellow ponchos during the rain. We had the yellow ones at one point, everyone did! I think I have some photos of that somewhere...

Rip 'em and they will replace them.

I had my first one ever rip the other week. I had brought it in to dry so I could get it replaced, but the DOG CHEWED it... I felt that might be pushing it a bit to have to explain that.

We use both the park ponchos (we have several - I never used to remember to bring them from the car into the parks), and have used the dollar store version. Yesterday we were in Orlando at the Titanic Exhibit and I FORGOT to put ponchos in my purse and it was pouring when we came out..... luckily there was a little gift shop that had ponchos for sale - I got a cheapy grown up yellow one, and bought DD a nice pink one with Princesses on it! I am going to buy a case of the cheap ones to keep in my car!

My current Mickey Poncho is Vintage 2002. I take care of it and carry it with me on my utility belt at all times when in the parks, so it has lasted a long time. It's definitely better than the dollar store disposable ponchos, but truthfully, it's not super strong and can get ripped if you are nto carefull.

I have a friend who has never had a Mickey Ponch that he didn'g rip in about 5 minutes. Meanwhile, I have one that is now 4-1/2 years old and still going strong; the point of course is that how long they last depends on how rough you treat them.

My friend wound up getting a better quality poncho at WalMart that is tougher than the Mickey Ponchos. It only cost him $4 or $5 and lasted him through the whole week on his last 2 WDW trips with no rips. I think he found it in the sporting goods section with camping equipment.

Not sure why this happened, but 2 weeks ago in Epcot, there was a castmember walking around handing them out for free!!!!!!!

Just a little pixie dust I guess, my entire family got one.

Hmm...I wonder if that is now an EX-cast member. :rotfl:

The cool thing about Disney ponchos is that they are different for each park.
So during a rainy day you might see groups of people with different type of ponchos from other parks. It's easy to spot them :)
