How much annual leave do you get a year.

Sorry to be nosey but DH and I were discussing the fact that so many US DVC owners go to WDW several times a year, yet we were under the impression that you don't get as much annual leave in the US as we do here in the UK, generally most people here will get around 4-6 weeks holiday a year. (between 20-30 days a year).

I get as much as I like as I'm self-employed and DH gets 26 days a year plus bank holidays, of which there are 8, but they're set dates so can't be moved.

Was just curious.....

As a teacher, my vacations are set to correspond to the bigger holidays, and all my vacations must be taken then, which is why I need 700 pts a year! I get two weeks, usually, at Christmas, a week at spring break, and summer vacation of about 10 weeks. Of course, I have to take classes then, but I can arrange that as I see fit. DH gets 4 weeks besides the holidays, poor dear has the misfortune of being married to a teacher, so he still has to vacation at the busiest times of the year. Of course, my schedule isn't the norm.....

I am a banker so I get all bank holidays (but I really don't count those) and 4 weeks and 2 days vacation (22 days total).

I get 5 weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick (they carry over) plus holidays.

Cindy is a H.S. teacher so she is off all summer, 4 days at Thanksgiving, 10 days at x-mas,and Easter week, and President's weekend(friday and Monday),and all legal holiday weekends.
I work for GM, and with my senority(26 years) I get 5 weeks vacation plus 2 weeks(nationwide-all GM plants) shutdown in July, and 10 days at x-mas,and all legal holiday weekends.So as you can see that is why we go 2-3 times a year to a DVC resort or other destinations also.

I get 4 weeks a year, and can roll one of those over. So this year it's 5 weeks. If we lived closer, it'd be easier to go more often, but we go once a year.

25 days vacation and 4 days personal leave plus 6 days sick leave and 10 holidays.

United States generally has longer work years than UK and Europe, where a more sensible view is taken.

I think DH gets 3 wks vacation, 6 sick days and 2 personal holidays he can use whenever he sees fit.

Last year he received so much per hours worked but that changed.

He has to use it or lose it. We don't have a problem with that as we do use it. Before, he would be compensated for unused time.

He still feels guilty when we take vacations about something going wrong at work. I tell him that he earned it and to not feel bad.

I get 4 weeks paid vacation, 1 "buy" another week (through payroll deduction), 8 fixed holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 family care. Our sick leave is 13 weeks (after 5 days you need a doctor excuse).

DH's is really messed up because he works 24 hours shifts and it would be really difficult to explain.

I get 3 weeks (15 days), 1 week sick, 9 holidays plus 1 floating holiday.

Because I work in the financial industry, I am required by law to take off 5 consecutive days and I can carry over the remaining vacation. Sick time carries over from year to year, but the floating holiday is use it or lose it.

DH gets 2 weeks, 3 personal days and 5 sick days. I get 3 weeks, 3 personal days and 5 sick days. We'll both get an extra week starting next year because of how long we've been with out company. My work hours are, however, very flexible. If I want to work 4 10-hour days Sunday-Wednesday, I can take Thursday-Tuesday off, then work another 4 10-hour days. I do stuff like that frequently so that I can handle house problems, maintenance, car repairs, etc. with my extra time and DH can max out his vacation time for Disney trips!

Editted to add: Almost forgot, we also get 7 holidays, of which my husband can choose to work and get them as floating holidays. He does this sometimes as well so we can use them to travel to Disney at less busy times of year.

And another funny thing -- my company will let us "bank" and "borrow" vacation time. I can save up to a week from this year toward the first three months of next year. And in the last three months of a year, I can borrow from next year (provided I'm wiling to pay it back if I leave before my anniversary date).

My DH father lives/works in London and it amazes me how much vacation time he gets. 5 weeks vacation, 10 holidays and unlimited sick time.

Before I retired, I got 5 weeks plus the 6 major Holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas) plus 10 personal days.

After I retired, I had every day off (not paid, though ) for 2 1/2 years.

Just started a new full time job at the end of May and now I get 2 weeks off plus the 6 major Holidays. Good thing I really like my new job, because I miss my freedom!!

I usually only go to visit Mickey once per year for a week. The anticipation and planning, especially when friends and family accompany us, is almost as much fun as actually being there!

Another teacher here. I get 10 weeks in summer, 3 days at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, 1 Monday each in Jan and Feb. one week in March. Nine sick days plus two personal days yearly. Still not enough! LOL!

You guys are all so lucky....

the average American usually gets 1-2 weeks and LOTS of people don't get any.

Some companies offer longer vacation the longer you work there. These people are all extremely lucky

I get 2 weeks vacation and hubby gets 3, plus holidays and sick time. (not much though)

I get 208 hours a year. That is 5 weeks 1 day. Plus 104 hours of sick leave and the standard U.S. Holidays.

DW, however, only gets 3 weeks vacation.

DH and I both get 25 working days plus bank hols ( 9 I think).

In the UK everyone is entitled to 20 working days ( including public holidays) even if employed on a temporary contract. It seems we have a better deal than many of our US friends.

We are self employed but manage to get 2 or 3 weeks a year away in a good year. Couple of one week vacations to DVC and a handful of long weekends near here.

No work, no pay. Sick days? Don't make me laugh. Our employees often get more time off than we do.
