How many vouchers for big eaters?

O.K., I'm trying to figure out if I can save any money using vouchers. The thing is, so many of the messages on these boards say something like, "My DH (or DW) and I are not big eaters, so we split a Mickey Bar and a glass of water and we couldn't eat another thing all day"...allright, I exaggerate. But it does seem like you never hear from anyone who admits to having a hearty appetite. Myself, my DH and two DS's (9 and 14) are pigs and we admit it. I'm looking at the Kingdom Lunch vouchers and wondering if any of us would get enough to eat if we split meals. When we go out to dinner at home, we usually eat every bite of our meal, (and we never split) but we never get appetizers and rarely get dessert. If I have to buy a voucher for everyone, we'll just have to forget it, because we can't afford $105 for one meal. If we could use 2 or even 3 vouchers AND get enough to eat, then it would be a good deal. So has anyone who is willing to admit to being a big eater used these vouchers? And if so, was there enough to share? Are there better restaurants than others as far as the volume of food is concerned? I'm most interested in the WS restaurants at Epcot, particularly the Marrakesh and the Teppanyaki. Any advice?

LOL! :teeth:

I consider myself to have a very healthy appetite. My username is well-earned! But honestly, I could never finish all the food provided on the Kingdom Lunch vouchers. The appetizers most places are substantial and I'm half-full by the time I eat one of those... then I'm usually able to finish about half of the main plate. Of course I really want to have some of the dessert, and yet I usually can't force down more than half of that.

I would say the portion sizes at most Epcot restaurants are equivalent to a chain restaurant like TGIFriday's or Olive Garden. If you can each finish a appetizer, meal and dessert at a place like that, then you'll need a meal voucher per person. If not, you may want to use two vouchers and order two additional entrees, so you can each have a full entree and split two appetizers and two desserts.

Even putting aside my concerns about the company that most people are buying these vouchers from (which is another whole story) I just tend to think it's better not to get the vouchers for a first-time visit. Until you've been there, it's kind of hard to know how your days will really go and how much you'll really eat.

When my husband (whose nickname is "the big hungry boy") and I went to WDW on our honeymoon, we thought we'd eat 3 sit-down meals a day. After two days of that, we felt SICK. (Partly from overeating, and partly because the heat and humidity were getting to us.) For once in our lives we starting ordering things like "a small salad" and we often found ourselves just snacking or skipping meals for the rest of the trip. I was so glad we weren't locked into a meal plan.

If you've been to WDW before and have a good idea of what your family will realistically eat, the vouchers may be worthwhile for you.

Another factor is whether your kids will share. Some kids don't mind. Some will get into a battle. Only you know your kids!

We like to eat pretty well ourselves! But we've often eaten lunch at WDW and DD and I will split our meal and the 3 of us will share 2 desserts. If we add 2 appetizers in there I think we'll certainly be more then satisfied! I'm going to get some and use them in places where we WANT to get a $26.00 entree but don't want to spend that much by the time you add dessert and drinks - which we always get. They will be a bargain for us there - someplace like Le Cellier or France.

From what I understand you can return unused vouchers if it's within 90 days so I don't see the harm in getting some and seeing how we like them. We're definitely getting the Q&C vouchers because we're staying at CS and I think they will really be a bargain at the Pepper Market.
