DDs are wearing uniforms for the first time. I am thrilled. DD5 gives me such a hassle about her clothes. If I had to say "No, you cannot wear your pink cowboys boots with your velvet christmas dress with minnie on it!" one more time, I would've lost my mind! Anyway, the colors are Khaki or black and white tops. I bought them each 1 khaki skirt, 1 khaki jumper, 1 khaki pair of bermuda shorts, 1 khaki pair of uh...khaki's and a black pair as well. Then they have 3 black polos and 2 white polos. And 1 button down shirt with the peter pan collar. I know i will have to add sweaters and long sleeves to this in a couple of months. Did I go overboard, not enough or just right? I would like to only do laundry once a week if possible.

When my son was in elementary school I made sure he had he had enough to last a week just in case.

Uniforms are great for girls but the boys basically wear that kind of stuff anyway. It all disappears when they go to middle school, though... I WISH they had uniforms there! :scared:

I think you're just fine, you definitely don't need anymore. When I was in school (I'm only 23 so it's not that long ago), I had one plaid skirt, about 4 or so blouses, a sweater, a pair of tights, and a bunch of knee socks. Never wore the pants because they had to be from a specific company and they gave you "front butt."

I usually have 1 jumper or skirt and 4 blouses. The jumper or skirt gets washed after 2 wearings. We have gym once a week, so one day they wear sweats.

I only have 1 in an actual uniform now. But when all 3 were wearing them, I tried to cut costs as much as possible.

I usually get enough for the week- but if I wasn't lazy and would wash more often I wouldn't need that much.

I always forget to get long pants and long sleeves during back to school time because "we don't need it then" and then I stuggle to find them when the air finally cools off

Yes, I have set myself up to be lazy! :rotfl:

I guess I better buy the long sleeve shirts now!

After 6 years of uniforms, we've found that 4 changes for each season works out well, plus two extra shirts in case of staining that requires long-term soaking. Around here (in the midwest, much further north than Georgia) kids still wear short sleeve shirts in winter, with the long-sleeve sweater or sweatshirt on top. Two long-sleeve outer tops is usually enough, but 3 will make your life easier.

My neighbor manages with two skirts for each of her girls; they wash those every other wearing. Younger kids tend to get grubbier so you may want to go with an extra; that khaki will show dirt easily, as opposed to the plaids that our parochial girls wear, which tend to hide dirt pretty well.

Girls at our schools really hate wearing trousers even though they can (fashion, you know), so they will only do it on *really* cold days. Girls young enough to really play when they are outside wear knit shorts under their skirts on a daily basis; my neighbor said she bought 5 prs. of those for each girl when they were still that young.

BTW, Scotchguard spray is your friend. Hang the uniforms up outside before they are worn and spray them thoroughly -- it will save you lots of stain-removal headaches later.

Ooh, thanks for the scotchguard tip!

That's more than what I had when I was in school. Did uniforms for elementary, middle and high school. I had 2 skirts, 2 shirts, 1 sweatshirt and 1 vest. We weren't allowed pants.

I never buy the white polo shirts. I did in K and learned my lesson very quickly that they will never be white again. My DS has 5 polos in blue, red and green, 3 pairs of khaki shorts and 2 pairs of navy. He also has a dress uniform - ugh! It is a navy blazer, tie and long khaki pants with black drss shoes. He looks adorable - but i swear everytime he puts it on - he has outgrown it! Especially the shoes.
