How many timeshare points does DVC actually sell?

Not sure how to phrase this question. Anyhoot, when you bought into BCV for example, you bought x amount of points along with a ton of other people until DVC deemed that property "sold out". If all BVC "home resort" owners' spent all of their points for reservations at BCV for any given year at the 11 month window (and no other resort), would everyone get to use all of their points at BCV or would they be forced to spill into other DVC resorts? Im just wondering I guess if Disney sells more points than there are vacancies for rooms at any single given resort in any given year?

Im sure there must be some kind of complicated equation here (to explain anyway). How do you really know what you are buying? Im just a bit concerned that if I buy into this, and want a peak period time (early Dec for example or Holidays) that the chances of me getting this date would be a crapshoot ..

Many thanks in advance,
Marty

DVC sells between 96-98% of each resort and retains the rest to allow for loss of use for maintenance (and their own rental).

All states, including FL, carefully regulate how timeshares may be sold to prevent overselling resorts.

To answer your question, with banking and borrowing, it is possible that not everyone would get a reservation in any specific year- this is the reason DVC has the right (responsibility) to suspend banking and/or borrowing if deemed necessary.

Disney does NOT sell more points than can be used in a given year, but, with the 11 month reservation priority, it's possible that all rooms could be filled for specific times. In practice, this rarely occurs and even when DVC had the Holiday Priority List- the resorts did not fill over the busy Christmas week- except for 1999 New Year's Eve.

The closer to 11 months you are able to make your reservation, the greater the possibility/likeyhood that you will never be disappointed about missing out on a reservation date.

Good luck!

I had 17 wonderful vacations down at OKW and all were made at the 11 month window. Doc already answered your question. What I would add to it is that if you are not the type to make reservations from 7 months to 11 months out, in other words you like to make reservations at the last minute, I would really give some thought to whether DVC is for you. If you buy into DVC with a BCV contract for example and want to make reservations for peak periods at the last minute, you would probably be out of luck getting anything where you want. Just a thought. There has never been a situation like you describe, except like doc mentioned, years ago they had a waiting list for Christmas Week. I would not concern myself with that situation, just think about whether you can make reservations with a enough months out to get what you want. You usually can if enough time is taken from the date of your vacation.
