How many times a week do you...

well, do I enter the discussion or not has been running thru my mind for 5 pages of post!

okay. Family of 6, sometimes 7 and no pets. DH and SAHM, 15,12,5,3 and sometimes 20 year old.

Dishes, don't touch 'em, started the oldest (DS26,out and married now) on that task at 12 or so and keep handing it down to next kiddo. the 15 and 12 year olds take one week on, one week off. I do pitch in when we have company, a party, etc. Dishwasher runs 1-2x a day. (we are all home every day except DH, makes a huge difference)

Laundry, one of the task I don't mind but I seem to always be behind the 8ball here. Every few days I do 2-4 loads, If I am ever caught up it is becasue I have had a marathon laundry day and knocked out 10-14 loads over 2 continuous days. and that's without using new towels every day or changing sheets as often as I should. . .

Vacuum, when I need to or can't take it any more. few times a week or few times a day? depends. always before company, always after company, always before leaving for overnight. . .

sweep, nope, not unless I am desperate and can't find vacuum (we live on 3 levels) I keep a broom and dustpan in corner of pantry but it has to look bad before I use it. I prefer to suck all that dirt up not push it around.

wet mop? don't own one and I take grief for that from my Dh and my kids. I prefer to get down on hands and knees thank you with a cloth. Or at least make my kids do so. It's a combined effort that I only do every month or so or again, before company.

bathrooms, do I have to talk about these? there are just so many of them (3 full. 1 half)and each gets treated differently. teen son does his own and I refuse to go in there. shares it with DS20 when he's home and I just don't want to know. DD12 usually cleans her own or we do it together if company is coming to use it (do you see a trend here in regards to company?, we have company a lot) My master bath is ginormous and is a room unto itself and takes forever to get clean all at once. I am happy to have either clean counter tops or a clean shower or a clean jacuzzi tub or a clean floor or maybe 2 of those things at once! Company does not enter this sanctuary unless I am housing a family of 5 or more that I do not know well and then I stick them all in my master bedrooom and bath which works well but is a nightmare to get ready as it does not get top notch cleaning efforts most any time otherwise. half bath on first floor of home, when it needs to be wiped down , I do it. times vary.

bedlinens, not as often as I want to. it's the whole laundry back up thing. but there is the whole company thing. . . when I do linens I do all sheets, matress covers, and blankets tho. change pillow cases once a week or so. but rest gets left to long 3 wks or more, so embarrased to admit!

no one has mentioned (or I missed it) wiping down door handles, doors, stair railings, spots on walls, windows, other things that collect germs or get spotted easily, this is a huge never ended job.

Second only to "picking up".I have not trained my family well. They don't get the whole pick it up as you go thing. I can come in at the end of a day out (kids home) running errands and spend 30 minutes picking up just the kitchen or just the family room. How does all this stuff get there? My DH is just as bad. where ever they take shoes/socks off is where I find them. toys, books, papers (oh the paper mountain) dishes, aaahhh!

dusting. . .umm, can I play the company card one more time?

you should come visit sometime, it looks really good when I know you're on your way for a visit! otherwise, come on over anyway, I'll shove a pile over and we can sit down and visit, at least if your not allergic to dust. . .and don't start me on the dust generated by computers in the office!

Wow...I feel like a neat freak and I've always considered myself a "so-so" housekeeper!

We have 3...me, DH and DS (11).

Run Dishwasher...whever it's full. Can be everyday or everyother. When I'm cooking ahead it can be 2 times a day.
Laundry....whever I have a full load (used to save it up for Sunday but that was a PITA!). Generally doing 1 load a day.
Vacuum/sweep/mop...well, we have a big, furry black dog...I could vacuum every 5 minutes, but I usually do it 1 to 2 times per day downstairs and every other day upstairs. Sweeping and mopping...same thing...I do it just about everyday in the kitchen and entry foyer (wood floors).
Clean bathrooms: Wipe off counters, mirrors and toilets daily...the rest once a week.

OK...so that's where all my time goes!

I can't answer for her, but I can tell you why we use fresh towels every shower... There is no way in heck I am going to dry my face with something I dried my hieny with yesterday!!

If you bathe properly wouldn't your hiney be clean?
I just hate the idea of rewashing a perfectly clean towel. KWIM? I understand if its a been a few days, but to be so wasteful with perfectly clean towels- I think thats why hotels encourage people to use towels more than once.

I KNOW I am clean, it is just something I can't get past. It just grosses me out.

fair enough... perhaps if you have a just face/hair towel AND a just body towel??? would you reuse?

I have thought about that, but I can't see how it would help. I would still have to wash a towel daily.

Laundry- every other day.
Dishwasher- when it's really needed, which is at least every other day.
Vacuum once a week.
Now that I found this place, I guess they'll have to wait longer! :rotfl2:

Run the dishwasher: Once a day-sometimes twice if I'm cooking a lot.
Wash clothes: Once a week.
Vaccum: About once a week
Sweep: Once a week
Change the bedding: Once a week-on laundry day!
Clean the bathroom really well: Once a week

I KNOW I am clean, it is just something I can't get past. It just grosses me out.

Yup, I'm with you. Just have to have a new towel. I just don't feel clean if I reuse. It's just what I did growing up, and it's what I continue to do. Honestly, when I was younger and saw the "reuse your towels" sign in hotels, I would think "Eww... who on earth would do that!" Sorry if that offends anyone.

hahaha The whole towel thing has me cracking up. I guess my family and I are gross then cuz we only change our towels every three days; however, I do use a new washcloth for every shower. To me a washcloth gets the dirt and grime while the towel polishes everything up that is now nice and clean.

Run the dishwasher: when full, every day or every other usually
Wash clothes: wow, more times than I can count; probably every other day at the least.
Vaccum: 2-4 times a week
Sweep: outside? I vacuum or swiffer, don't really sweep
Change the bedding: not so often, like 1x/month unless there are sick kids
Clean the bathroom really well: again, not as often as I should, about once or twice a week

You know what - I changed my mind. I'm not done yet. This ALWAYS happens with threads like this. It turns into a contest.

I don't believe that every person that answered on this thread was completely truthful...sorry if this offends anyone, but that's kind of where the "crazy" comment came from. All of a sudden, there's a group of people are scrubbing their floors on their hands and knees every day, doing 97 loads of laundry a week, dusting every day, washing windows every night before they go to bed - I'm exaggerating (OBVIOUSLY) but you get the idea. Everyone wants the total strangers on the internet to believe that they have the cleanest house on the planet.

Same thing happens with the food conversations. People talk about their picky eaters...some people are honest, admitting that their kids don't have the healthiest regime. Then in comes the crowd who have children that only eat organic food grown in the neighbors farm next to the free range chickens and non-antibiotic milk from the cow that's been blessed by the Dali Lama. Why is that?

OK, now I'm done.

:grouphug:

Sorry Sarah!:(

Well.... mom2aredhead..... I don't know what to say..... I will say that I do agree with you, that some people lie on here about certain things - I guess we all do every once in a while. Like if you ask someone if they pick their nose, everyone says OH NO WAY, NOT ME!!! when you know darn well everyone on the world picks and flicks!!! Another example, I said that I sweep a couple times a week... well... that was a total lie! I can't remember the last time I swept my kitchen!!! I'm going to do it today or tomorrow, however, because I am putting colored sugar on chocolate diped fortune cookies, so its getting everywhere!! Anyway, everyone needs to take a deep breath and calm down - its just a silly thread on a silly disney web site!

Love
Sarah

Our house is right there with yours about the towels and washcloths. :rotfl:

OH, I didn't mean that you were gross, hope you didn't take it that way. I was just saying that when I was younger (like 14 or so) and saw those signs that is what I thought just because that is what I was used to. On one of the earlier pages I even mentioned that my husband reuses, but me and the kids don't. I think it's just one of those things that I grew up doing and can't change.

I want to add this story...

I have a friend who was always bragging about how clean her house is... "I clorox down the bathroom. I vacuum daily. The socks we wore yesterday, are clean, today." Blah, blah, blah.

We were all pretty sick of listening to it... for one thing, it gets boring after awhile, plus... who cares!

Anyway, one day after listening to her, again, another friend said...

"Wow, your family is either, very clean, or... very dirty, I just can't figure out which!" :lmao:

I will say that I clean EVERYTHING with bleach & hot water. All bathrrom surfaces (except mirror), all kitchen surfaces, inside & outside fridge, inside & outside of cabinets, walls, doorknobs, lightswitches, stains on carpet. Furniture gets windexed or pledged depending on material.

When I am off of work, the floors get swept twice a day and laundry gets done every other day.

I am the clean one, the other two are walking hurricanes! I NEVER had to clean so much when I lived alone!

DH and I both are teachers, we have 2 sons, older one is 3 and a half, little guy is 13 months. Here's how it usually goes in our house:

Dishwasher: everyday because it's full everyday!
Laundry: once a week if I get it all done in one day, otherwise twice a week and split it up
Vacuum: once a week (but I do get a bit lazy with this sometimes and go 2 weeks)
Sweep: not enough. should do it everyday but it gets done twice a week or so.
Change bedding: once every 2 weeks
Clean bathroom really well: every week. I get freaked out by dirty bathrooms. I have a tiny bathroom on the first floor of the house, and a full bath upstairs. Both get done weekly.
Make the bed: only weekends, wish I would remember it at 5AM when I get up on weekdays to go to work!

Our room gets neglected the most as far as cleaning. There is always something to be done in the boys' rooms, kitchen, bathroom, etc. I am clean but definitely not neat. Clutter is my weakness, thank goodness it is not dirt and filth!

We are 3 (plus 2 cats!) We:

Run dishwasher: every day for sure (it's a struggle as to when because the real chore is to unload it)

Laundry: it works out roughly to once a day, or maybe 5 loads a week...it just comes and goes in spurts when I get to it...

Vacuum: main area rug in FR--3x a week, other rooms, once a week or every other week :worried:

Sweep: about the same...we use a hardwood floor vacuum...I run it about every 10 days...

Change bedding: used to be every week...I have lowered my priorities to every other week (sometimes a little more :scared1: )

Clean bathroom: used to be every week for sure...now I'm look at about every 10 to 14 days...

Make the bed: every day FOR SURE!!!

Four of us here. Me (34), DH (33), DS (14), and DD (7).

Run the dishwasher: Once a day or they pile up (we also do a few handwashings a week - dishes that can't go in the dishwasher).
Wash clothes: Twice a week or it's impossible to tackle.
Vaccum: Once a week.
Sweep: Once a week. (same with mopping)
Change the bedding: Every other week.
Clean the bathroom really well: Once a week.

Ok here we go:
Me,Dh,DD19,DD16,DDS15,DD13,& DD10,PLUS to very good Labs.

Vacume : everyday twice a day.
laundry : 2-3 loads a day - 5 days a week. Try not to have any for the weekend but that doesn't always work out.
Don't have Dishwasher but dishes are done twice a day.
Bathrooms cleaned really well: once a week.
Bedding change once a month {unless it really needs to be changed}:rotfl2:

Sweep: every other day
Mop: hardly ever. I usually go around with a hot soapie towel and clean where needed.
I also clean out the refridge every week. and clean it every 2 weeks.

I'd like to had that I am far from a clean freak. I also work 40+ hours a week outside the house.
My bedroom gets the least attention. When I finially make it to that room there are 2 things I do and cleaning is not one of them.LOL:lmao:
