How many time You change your reservations?

am a DVC member, booked my trip using my points in August 2019 for 2020 trip. I had to change in a week to next trip because of our friends.
now we want to change to 2022, they are saying that is a third change and you have to pay penalty. Is that right.

I haven't had to change dates myself but I have heard they unofficially allow only one change. According to the paperwork any change in date is considered a cancellation so the deposit per person would be forfeited and the rest returned, then the "new" trip booked.

I'm wondering if that's a DVC policy or an ABD policy, since you booked through DVC using points. I would think DVC is the one controlling things. But I don't have DVC, so I don't know for sure.

Previously we were able to change reservations twice, but a couple years ago they reduced this to one change allowed. If you are moving to a more expensive trip though it doesn't hurt to ask

Are you currently in placeholder status or have you booked for 2022 already? I don’t know DVC, but I was able to get a refund of my 2020 trip that I moved to 2021. Perhaps you can ask for a refund of your points and then book the 2022 trip as a new reservation. ABD isn’t always following its own stated policies these days, so it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Unfortunately, DVC has its on rules and cancellation policies with regards to using points to book ABD/DCL, etc.. From the conversations I’ve had with DVC in the past, any change to an ABD requires another $95 fee because it is considered a cancellation. Below is the information that is in the reservation confirmation:

If you make changes to the adventure commencement date or chosen vacation, it will be deemed a cancellation by you. Irrespective of resale by us and unless stated otherwise in your Guest Confirmation, the following cancellation policy shall apply if you cancel:

• 120 or more days before trip start date: You will pay a cancellation fee of ten percent (10%) of the Reservation Points and cash used to reserve the trip*
• 119-90 days before trip start date: You will pay a cancellation fee of 50% of the Reservation Points and cash used to reserve the trip*
• 89-46 days before trip start date: You will pay a cancellation fee of 75% of the Reservation Points and cash used to reserve the trip*
• 45 days before trip start date: You will pay a cancellation fee of all Reservation Points and cash used to reserve the trip*

I don’t remember if the days in the policy were changed recently due to Covid. However, I do know that when I called them in March to be proactive and switch my River Cruise from 2021 to 2022, I was told I would be under penalty and would lose my points. Needless to say, I am waiting for them to cancel my July River Cruise and Short Escape so that I can use those points on the 2022 ABD I already put a deposit on. They just canceled the June Danube River Cruises, so I’m hopeful mine will be canceled soon. Although DVC members were allowed to move their 2020 trips to 2021 without penalty, I don’t get the impression that DVC will do that for 2022 unless the 2021 trip is canceled by ABD.

Keep in mind that any points refunded to you are considered reservation points and are returned to the use year in which the trip occurs. They can only be used for specific things and will expire at the end of the use year. Definitely speak with Member Services to ensure you have a thorough understanding of the implications of what you want to do before you do it.
