I was just wondering how many with 1st seating skip dinner on the 1st
night? After eating a big lunch buffet and being so crazy getting settled, do you feel like getting dressed for a 6:00 dinner?

I'm anxious for any and all input !!

Thanks,
Cheryl

We only had 3 dinner and we did not want to miss anything. Yes, it is rushed no doubt about it. Worth it?? You bet!!

In 13 DCL cruises we never, ever missed a meal in the dining rooms with the exception of our Palo nights....this includes several 7 day cruises. We just love the dining experiences onboard and love bonding with our servers!!!

I don't think you'd want to miss the first night...especaily if you were in AP the first night...they only do the light show the first time around...so when you go back your second time around...you don't get it.

Keep in mind also...that just because there is a big buffet...you don't have to eat it all. If your worried about being full at dinner time...eat light at lunch...or just go for drinks and dessert at dinner.

You also don't have to worry and stress out about getting all dressed up and ready for dinner. Disney isn't hard on those who don't come dressed to the nines every night...especialy the first night. Come casual..and enjoy the evening...meet your table mates (if you have any) and have a good time...Afterall it is ...A Vacation.

What light show?????

Easier said than done.

Back in '99 on our first cruise, you couldn't board until 1pm at the earliest. In my wisdom, I decided that we should have a good lunch at WDW before we went to the ship because ... get this ... because since it would be after lunch when boarding started that they wouldn't serve lunch on the ship :rotfl: So we had lunch about 11:30, got on the ship around 2, went to the buffet then had early dinner. Yep, was stuffed. Nope, wouldn't dream of missing it. Several cruises later, skip lunch, hit the buffettes on the ship!!

In animators Palate...on the first rotation...they do the black/white to color show..where all the walls start out black and white...then by the end of dinner it's all in color. Same goes for the CM's (Servers, and dinning room staff) they start out in black and white uniforms...and end up in color. Everything from the pics on the wall to the pillers in the middle of the room to the show clips on the big screens. They only do it on the first three nights...while everyone is working around the rotation...in other words only the first time your in AP you'll get the full show.

This is another reason we like late seating, a litte less rushed. However, just as has been stated, the first night is a little more casual as some people are just getting there luggage. We always look forward to the first dining room meal, meeting our serving team, seeing previous servers meeting table mates. The first night is kind of festive and really sets a nice tone for the week.

Try not to miss it, and you'll be surpised at how you'll get into the groove. And if you're not that hungry at dinner, just order and appitizer and salad.

I love having first seating. We got to board about 11:00 in the morning so by the time we played and enjoyed the deck party we were ready for dinner! I would never skip dinner because you have new guest that usually are ready to meet you! :)

You never want to miss a first night in the dining room, that is when you meet all your table mates.

Think about it this way. If you board early and eat lunch around 12:30, it's still about 6 hours before your food is delivered to your table at dinner. I don't care how much you ate at the buffet (although the food choices are pretty light & healthy), after 6 hours, you're going to be hungry! :)

I'm happy to hear you say that because it's one of the reasons we chose to go with late seating for our first cruise next year! I simply cannot imagine eating breakfast, lunch, AND dinner when dinner is at 6:30, LOL. My stomach needs more time than that to fit in all that food. :teeth: At WDW when we had a sit-down lunch we didn't get hungry again until after 7:30 pm, even with all the walking we were doing, so I'm hoping that the late seating will be perfect for us. I figure if we get hungry before dinner there seems to be plenty of snacking options available to tide us over, right?! ;)

Traditionally on cruises you never "dressed" the first night out. So I'd say with the possible exception of having a first night dinner at Palo, you'd be better off on the casual side.

I wouldn't miss a night in the dining rooms, or a breakfast buffet, or a lunch buffet, or ice cream and fruit at scoops, or the desert buffets, or the all hands on deck platter, or my frozen layered drink, or cookies at night, or....

Hmmm--maybe that explains why my jeans are a bit tight since we got home :goodvibes

But seriously--the dinners in the dining rooms were excellent. And you are so pampered by the servers. It was always a terrific experience.

NEVER miss a dinner! they're always worth it, and its not really any rush, last time i went, i arrived about 15 min before the boat drill, when i returned i went up to the deck party, at 5 o'clock(when we set sail) i went to the back of the oat and i just watched us sail away, and 5:30 we had gotten completly to sea so i went to the room, and was actually the first of my family to arrive, we were all ready and got to the dinner on time with no big rush :)

I don't think we would skip dinner the first night because we would be eager to meet our servers and table mates!
