I already have on my WLressie bunkbeds, north wing but now I'm worried about getting put on a low floor. Should I call back and request 4th or 5th floor? I know there are no guarantees but it doesn't hurt to have it on there just in case.

You can call and make more requests, but just remember that the more requests you make, the more you set yourself up for disappointment when you don't get them. Personally, I'd wait until checkin, then ask about an upper floor.

Good luck!!! :teeth:

I request 3 things-but I keep them vague

"These are my requests in order of importance"
1st Medical Non-Smoking(2 children with allergies/asthma-a need not a request)
2nd Close (but not next ) to an elevator or main entrance(I get horrible swelling)
3rd As High as possible.

I have gone make no requests other than the Medical non-smoking and have gotten the room at the end of the hallway with the dumpster view :rolleyes1 ...I figue making the requests it can not get any worse. And atleast someone else will have the end of the hall.

Do I expect to get all of my requests...no, but I am hoping for atleast 2. ;)

In your case I would say
"In order of importance" could I please request Bunkbeds, in the North Wing, on the highest floor possible, please.

I know you want the 4th or 5th...but wouldn't you rather just not be on the 1st floor?
Also I think at check in, not demanding(I'm not saying that you would be this way and this way you are less likely to be disappointed), but saying thank you and smiling a lot helps. If one of your requests was not met you could say..I was wondering if there was any last minute cancelations or changes in availbility so I can have a bunk bed room in the North Wing higher than the 1st floor. :sunny: And wait patiently with a big thank you and smile. I know you might be tired from traveling, but it works. You would be so suprised at how far a smile and a sincere thank you goes...they are becoming less and less frequent and people who deal with the public on a regular basis are begining to notice-and take matters in to their own hands.

And please (I know everyone here does not do this) do not be talking on your cell phone, when you are susposed to be interacting with another person. I witnessed this the other day at Hallmark, and the poor cashier said it happens all the time- Trust me there was a big difference in the way I was treated and the was the woman on the phone was treat. Does it bring tangible items, no, but I was treated with much more respect and dignity(and she(clerk) was too), and that just makes both of our days better. :goodvibes

The less requests you make the better chances of getting an upgrade. We make only one request and that is non-smoking and have gotten upgrades about 90% of the time (which is alot for us since we vacation in WDW 5-6 trips a year). Logically if there are better rooms to be filled, they are going to go to the folks with the least amount of requests. Over the past couple of years I've booked standard view at WL, AKL, BC and have never stayed in a standard room ever (about 15 visits between just these 3 resorts). Non-smoking is my only request for medical reasons. However, when checking in, I do ask where we are going to be located and have sometimes asked about a different location and area always willing to wait if the room is not ready.

I think you should go ahead and have this noted on your reservation. Just keep in mind that your room will be assigned from the available pool of clean/ready rooms when you check in. The fewer room turning over the day you check in, the less inventory there is from which to fulfil your requests. You may be able to increase your chances by being willing to take a room assignment that is not ready when you check in, but may be available a little later in the day.

Another DIS boards member (and WDW CM) CDSTapisRouge has posted some of the best info about how rooms are assigned at WDW resorts. This really helped me to understand how the front desk CM & I can work together to get the room location we want. AllEarsNet also has a great write-up on how rooms are assigned at http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/cro1.htm.

Here's what CDSTapisRouge had to say.....

"In general the only rooms that are pre-assigned are those that have medical needs requested and/or are traveling with another party (or have more than one room booked). The average reservation (even with basic requests) are not pre-assigned. The CM that checks you in will assign you a "best fit room" when you arrive at check in." 5/1/06

"...Disney does a first come first serve type room assignement unless you have a special need. The only thing that we pre-assigned where medical needs, rooms guaranteed for special needs (ie: non smoking due to medical, first floor for medical, things like that) as well as reservations with more than one room and/or a request to be near another party. Other than that a basic request like "near food court" would not be pre-assigned, if it was avalaible at time of arrival then they will assign it to you.

As far as the CM's on the front desk that actually check you in, there are a few different ways for them to find you a room. They can just change your reservation from guaranteed to inhouse and the computer will assign a room automatically that is clean and ready, OR (and this is what I always did) they can go into the full room avalability for the day and find a room for you. Now they can look it up by only room that are clean at that moment, or they can look at all rooms, clean or dirty, that will be avalaible that day. This way they can pick what room you are going into based on your requests vs what will be avaliable. But to answer your question yes...the room assigner does really exist, but they have a lot more responsibiltes, not just assigning rooms." 3/2/06

I saw your earlier post...and have to say that I have had the exact oppsite happen to me. My last 2 ressies had only the medical non smoking need. In both cases we could have not had a room further from the elevator, and awful views, and one was on the ground floor. I am under the belief at least I am at WDW  . (But that has been my experience-I am going to try it with a couple of requests and see what result I get next time) ;)
