just wondering how many ponchos to take and do you reuse or throw OUT each one every time you use it..they look like they would rip easily.

We bought 6 (my nieces/nephews were meeting us) in '05. My kids have used them for Six Flags, White Water Rafting etc and they are still fine. We are taking all 6 but only 3 to the park......I heard that if you bought the Mickey ones that if they rip they will replace.

We take one for each person. We use them until they die. We just replaced the ones bought in 2000 in 2008. They were the yellow ones. There was a rip in one plus the kids are into adult sizes now so we had to bump up the size.

I bought 3 for each person on our last trip. After Kali, we gave them to another family (they were so thankful!). Threw another one away after a brief rain, then never used the 3rd one (but that would have been our keeper). These are the $1.29 at Target disposable kind, BTW.

We bought the mickey ponchos a few years ago and used them for about 2 years... when we finally stopped wanting to carry them around..

then for a trip to another amusement park we tried the idea of getting cheap ponchos to throw away.. just make sure you actually try out the cheap ones before you leave.. cause the ones we got were certainly cheap.. they quickly ripped and didn't keep us dry at all.. so we'll probably just buy the mickey ones when we get there and hold onto them.. or find cheap ponchos that actually work

The Disney ponchos that you get at WDW are very durable, they are not the cheap flimsy dollar store ones. We always saved them but I used to always forget to repack. Now I keep a set in our luggage all the time. DD16 used to use them for school on rainy days, they fit wonderfully over her backpack.

I bring the 89 cent ones from walmart because they are packaged so nice and small. Since I need to carry around 5 of them, I don't like carrying the bulkier decent ones. Honestly, I'm not sure how people are ripping them because we used our cheapos through tropical storm Fay last year and they held up fine, even with the downpouring rain and wicked winds. The biggest difference I find is that the hoods on the cheaper ones don't stay on as well when it is windy.

I usually bring 2 per person on our 12 night trip. Many times we only use one set of them. We just reuse them.

Definitely bring a ziploc bag to the park to put the wet ponchos in. Otherwise, you will soak everything in your bag when you store them after a rain.

I find the cheap ones to be surprizingly durable. :)
2 in a pack for a dollar at the Dollar Tree.
You can cut the length on the adult size to fit the bigger kids.
I shake them out and store them in a ziplock, also.
Then, back in the hotel, we hang them up to dry.

We might actually go out and get those then! :goodvibes

Ours were from this magazine shop type store at our local mall.. surprisingly no dollar stores in the area.. they were just incredibly flimsly and I ripped mine.. I'd like to hear where people have gotten them from to get ideas for our Sept trip :thumbsup2

It depends on the time of year you go. In Aug it rains every day. I will bring 1 for every day. In Dec I only use the poncho for Spash mountain.

I usually have both! I take the heavy duty ones which we have used year after year. On a good day when the forecast seems ok I will throw in a couple of of packs of the disposable ones, which will last a day or two but get very smelly. If the forecast is bad I will take the disney ones. They are more of a pain to carry though!

I usually buy them at the dollar store- 2 for $1...now mind you they are not nearly as durable as the ones from Disney or some of the others out there, but I don't want to carry those around wet & they never seem to get folded as good the 2nd time around!!!! (if we don't ruin them we hang them up & use them again otherwise they hit the garbage)

Ditto on the cheapo ponchos - got ours at Target. We took four each for our 8 day trip to WDW during Hurricane Fay last year and came home with one set. We used the same one all day but started with a fresh one the next.

We have the good sturdy ones, which we use on days it pours all day long and we buy the cheap 2/1 dollar at Dollar Tree. The cheap ones are good on days you may only get an hour or two shower (though we have worn them in pouring rain for a long time with no problems) and easier to carry. We separate them after we buy them and they fit perfect into any lunch size baggie type bag for easy carrying into the parks in our fanny packs or pockets even. After use we normally toss them out so we do not have to carry wet plastic around or put them back in the baggie. The cheap ones also make great things to sit on for parades when the ground is wet after a storm :thumbsup2

We bring several throw aways for each of us for the trip, probably 4 or 5 in summer season, less in less hot months with fewer showers in the afternoons.

We bought the Disney ones and folded them neatly and put them in our backpacks to reuse again and again. I did leave, or throw away the poncho at the hotel before returning home. I figure when I return in a couple of years, I will just spring for a new one.

We are still using the same yellow/Mickey Disney ponchos we bought 10 years ago on our first WDW trip.

They were much sturdier back then!

For years I bought the cheap ones and brought extra so I could throw them away at the end of the day.

With Disney ponchos being so much cuter and sturdier for about $7 I decided I would give them a try.

I love my Disney ponchos and have rarely had one rip during the trip. The great thing - if one rips simply take it to the nearest store that sells them and they will exchange it for a brand new one!:cool1:

On our last trip we took those really cheapy ones from Walmart figuring we could just throw them away after using them. They were horrible so thin and clinging to you we ended up getting wet anyway. Next time it rained we bought the Mickey ponchos at the parks and so we will be taking them back to reuse this time, they are much nicer.
