How Many Points Have You "Downsized"?

Thought it would be interesting to see how many owners have sold off some of their points they acquired over the years. We bought in 2007. Purchased a total of 464 pts. over four resorts. Over the last year we have downsized 224 pts. over 2 resorts. Our family dynamics have changed where my adult children don't have as much vacation time. How much have you downsized and why?

I bought 280 points when BLT went on sale in late 2008 and since then I've separated from my husband and we are almost divorced now. We sold off our 120-point contract and entered into an agreement whereby I'll keep the 160-point contract for myself.

Sold 50 Hilton Head points several years ago when I realized I did not like that resort at all.

Sold 150 SSR points just because I changed jobs and no longer have the vacation or freedom to visit Disney as often. I don't want to use 100% of my vacation at Disney (sorry folks)

I went down from 1,250 points to 1,001 points, mainly because of dropping two resorts (AKV and VWL) so I would just own at my favorite four (BLT, BWV, BCV and VGC). I expect to pickup some VGF points when available, as well as some more BWV points via resale.

We had 500 points (five contracts) and sold two of them (175 points). 325 is plenty and we don't have to pay DVC so much anymore. One good trip a year works for us.

We are in the process of selling most of our April contracts and plan on keeping our October contracts which is a better UY for our winter and spring travel months. Paying over $10,000 in dues this year has me thinking that we might see additional increases in the 8% range. :(

Have you seen 8% increases? How many total points would have dues of $10,000? I'm jealous!!

We downsized from 430 to 300 a few years ago. We started with 230 at OKW, bought 200 at BWV and then sold the OKW contract to purchase 100 points at AKV. We have not missed the extra 130 points at all.

Considering downsizing as a trade to purchasing a home nearby. Hard decision to make!

We haven't downsized but our family is seriously considering buying a home on HHI, and if that happens, we will sell our 142 HHI points.

We have 650 points between 2 resorts and have debated selling our SSR contract and just using our Wyndham points to do WDW trips. We've stayed at Bonnet Creek and have a few days at Wyndham Reunion before we head to VB at spring break. That could be the tipping point, according to DH.

Sold off 100 BLT points eariler this year (BLT just doesn't do it for me). Will consider selling off our AKV points if we jump into GFV. We'll see!

:thumbsup2

I have yo-yoed up and down since the beginning.
I started with 150 BWV points and added on at WVL 75 and HHI 75 and another 25 at BWV. Unfortunately I went through a divorce and downsized to 150 BWV. After the divorce was final, I added 50 BWV points. Now I have a total of 350 points all at BWV.

If I ever need to sell off more, I have three relatively small contracts - 50, 150 and 150.

AKV and BLT both had 8% plus increases. We sold a contract last year so we are down to 1830 points.

We purchased 170 VWL points in 2001....added 50 at BWV in 2002....then another 100 BWV in 2003....so 320 total....we're usually borrowing points but the 320 work for now with no plans to sell or buy more

None yet, but we may sell our VGF if our son and his wife ever decide to move back home to North Carolina. We won't have as much incentive or reason to head to the West Coast if that happens.

We haven't downsized at all...in fact we've doubled our points in the last year. We started with 170 at OKW in the late 90s and added on 100 there and 70 at HH through DVC within a couple of years. Within the last year we have added another 100 at OKW, 75 at HH and 150 at BWV, all through resale.

Our kids are college-aged and adding more points allows us to give them a week at Disney every year. They also come with us sometimes and we are finding it very convenient to have all the points.

I don't have plans to sell any of my points at any time in the future. In fact, I'd love to add more but I think we have the right amount for us at this time.

We sold over half our points at BWV (175 points). DH has a job that pays way less than his job prior to the "recession" and my job in the restaurant business has also taken quite a hit incomewise.I felt very fortunate to be able to sell our points for a decent price and to be able to hang onto enough points to satisfy my WDW obsession(almost!!). We used the Timeshare Store and cannot speak too highly of them....they were fantastic in every way.

None, and hope I never have too.

Can easily afford the MF's and paid cash for our points, but we are having more fun doing other trips than going to WDW 2x per year.

We will be at DL this November and the earliest we can fit WDW will be November 2013 or January 2014.
