I am considering joining in on DVC. I have not received their info yet or spoken to a salesman. I already have reservations for a cruise next Jan 2003 (4nt land/4nt cruise). I am looking at what if my husband and myself start cruising and want to do points for that how much will that cost and how many points?

I would like to be in the BWV's w/1bdrm and I could possibly do 200 points for the 7nts for Jan time frame. I was thinking what if we decide (years to come) we just want to do a 7nt cruise instead of going on property. How much would that be and could we afford it. I have a feeling the points will prob be well over 300 and not worth it.

Hi,

The Cruiseline point chart for 2003 is not out yet, however for the same time period this year the points were as follows...

Category 5 - 198 points per adult (for first 2 adults in room)
78 points per each addition adult
52 points per child ages 3 - 12
16 points per child under age 3

But...did you know that the Category 6 cabins are *exactly* the same as Category 5. The only difference is that 5's are on deck 7 while 6's are on decks 5 & 6. So, if you have your heart set on deck 7 the 5 is fine but if the deck doesn't matter you might want to look into a 6. The points for a 6 are 185 per adult (first 2) so you can save 26 points. Up to you of course, but I don't think a lot of people know how little difference there is between a 5 and a 6.

Also, the above points were for the Eastern Caribbean itinerary. The Western itinerary will probably be more points per person since it is new. The current points chart (2002) shows the Western Itinerary as 6 points more per adult (first 2), 13 points more per additional adult, 13 points more per child 3-12 and for children under 3 there is no change.

One additional point...you do not need to use points for every member of your cruising party. If you want to you can use points for some and cash for some. You must have at least one adult per stateroom cruising on points...after that you can mix it up any way you choose.

Have fun planning!

Michele

Thanks Michele. I am trying to see how many points I should purchase at first (especially if we are thinking about cruising). I was thinking about 200 but I am wondering if I would need more like 270 or even 300 points (or just not do this at all).

I see my your post I need at least 200 points just for one person and I can pay cash for the other person. That sounds good (for now).
