How many points expire every year?

While it is sad to think about any points expiring, I'm curious to see what people think. There's all kinds of reasons points may expire: forget to bank, small leftover amounts not worth renting out, contracts up for sale, memberships "frozen" due to financing issues, and the list goes on. No rhyme or reason to the intervals I chose in the poll, but remember there's more than 80 million points in the system now.

I guessed the highest level you posted, as even 1% of all total points would be more than 800,000.

I suspect a lot more points expire or end up as 'breakage' than we think. All of the resorts max out breakage income and the amount over the cap goes to DVC.

Just 1% of the 80m points the OP talks about is 800k points and the breakage is higher than that. Can't remember but its a couple percent I think.

Breakage income is 2.5% of annual dues less certain items like property taxes. We get the full credit every year for all resorts, so a LOT of points must go unused by the individuals that own them.
