How many points does a week's stay in the Caribbean typically cost?

Has anyone used their points extensively for Caribbean vacations? I'm just curious as to how many points you need for a full week somewhere (I'm sure it varies).

I'm wondering if it's more economical to vacation in the Caribbean this way or to book on your own and stay at an all- inclusive.

Thanks,

Deb

I did a week in Puerto Rico last year that cost me 130 points for a 1-bedroom at the Hyatt in Dorado during the discount season.

However I received a card in the mail yesterday from DVC which said that II will now have standard amounts based on room size and season. They looked pretty economical.

Hi~

Thought I'd pass along this info. I called Member Svcs. this morning to have them request a search for 2004 for Harborside Atlantis or Westin St. John. I was told that DVC has removed Harborside as a Member's Choice property. Reason given: it was taking up to 2 years to get an exchange. Therefore, I would guess the only way to get this property would be to do a private exchange (?).

At the Westin St. John property, all weeks are considered "high" there year round, so according to the new charts a 1 BR would be 160 points.

I would hope that at some point DVC would reconsider and put HAR back on the list. Their options in the Carribbean are limited at best, and certainly not all are "premier" resorts, which is what DVC members are giving up for their trade.

Aruba is DVC High season for Xmas through Easter and Mid season for the rest. The 1 BR is the best deal for the Caribbean as there are few 2 BR units anyway and comparitively, the 1 BR exchanges are less points than the studios or 2 BR.

My understanding is that Harborside units are very rarely deposited with II anyway. If you are looking for high season, my guess is that it would be a nearly impossible task. I just booked a week over the summer directly through Atlantis and sold my DVC points to help cover the cost. They have a surcharge of $45/ day for my 13-year old.
