It's canning season, folks. Gonna try my hand at it... for the first time. I've selected a recipe for Blueberry Jam and it calls for "9 cups of crushed berries". Sooo, how much do I buy?? Off I went to the Farmer's Market this afternoon and figured the person selling the blueberries would know the answer. She didn't. She called Grandma. Grandma said 3-4 pints. Grandma, I believe, was w-r-o-n-g. I think I need more like 14 pints. Can someone help me out here??

1 pint= 2 cups so you'd need 4.5pints

Thanks, Katie, but that's for the whole fruit (uncrushed). I need to know how many berries I need to make 9 cups of CRUSHED berries. Any idea? 14 pints might be a few too may but I know 4 isn't enough.

It seems to me the receipe is calling for 9 cups of blueberries (crushed) which as pp stated 2 cups in a pint so you need 4 and a half pints.

I thought of that too but it doesn't read that way. It says exactly "9 cups crushed berries". I WISH it was '9 cups berries, crushed'. It would make things soooo much easier! Ugh! For what it's worth, this recipe is in the Ball Blue Book. My copy has it on page 32 (Berry Jam).... if anyone wants to check it for me and give their interpretation.... I think I'm gonna have to just start crushing berries tomorrow and hope I bought enough. I only have 7 pints.

I would guess 9 pints, figuring the 2 cups would crush to 1. Might get a little more out of 2 cups, so 7 might work.

Just adjust the recipe ingredients for the amount that you have and you will be fine.
