How many pins to start?

I have some pins for DS and DD when we go in December. I know a good number they will want to keep and picked some expressly to trade. I'd say they have maybe 12 pins each they will want to trade. How many "traders" do you think they will need for a first visit (4 days)? I am only having them trade with CMs and maybe in the shops as a way to start identifying CMs in case they get lost so not sure how they will take to it. Betting they will have fun though!

I got my kids a few pins when we visited last year and neither one of them really took to it - I would suggest getting a few for them but wait and see if they really get interested in it before spending too much.

I honestly thought my kids would enjoy the pin trading but nope, they did not want to give up or trade any of their pins and after a few days going to the parks did not even bother wearing their pins.

That is a good idea to limit it to CMs - although my kids were approached by people wanting to trade.

I agree, a dozen or so should be enough to get started. If they really like trading, you can bring more on the next trip. If they don't, then you haven't spent to much money. Have fun!

I think 12 is a good starter number as well. If they really like it you will probably end up buying more or they will have to trade the ones they already traded. If they seem excited about it and you can afford it I would suggest as many as you can afford because they are much cheaper the more you buy and a lot less than buying them new. You may also want to buy lanyards or training books as well online.

For just starting out, 12 is a good number. My sister (age 12 next month) and I both take at least six per day we're at the parks. I did find on my last trip that I didn't trade much as usual. I only traded maybe two pins each day.

My son was 7 when we went last year and he had just one pin, the one that came with the lanyard. I hadn't even thought about him being into pin trading.

Well....he was!

He ended up using some of his own souvenir money to buy more pins (specifically hidden mickeys) and started trading like crazy!

His lanyard was full by the end of the trip.

What works for us is to treat the pins we trade for as temporary. It becomes easy to fall into the headspace of, "no, I traded for this because I like it, I can't let it go" so we try to go with, "I got this coll thing I'm going to wear for a few hours (or even a few trips) and then I'm going to trade it for something else."

Twelve should be plenty if they keep cycling them.

We have a minimum of 25 per person, but we are major traders and will stop every CM we see and we trade with a lot of guests as well. It's really hard to say how many you should have because you just don't know what you might find. But for us, 25 is our minimum.
