How many people utilize Uber/Lyft while at Disney?

Last trip (several years ago) there was some concern about taking Uber to Contemporary because the gate guard might not let you through--is that still a thing?
I've not heard it to be, but hopefully someone else can confirm. Anyone can visit a Disney resort, and you'd be able to get to CR through other means, so I can't see why they'd want to stop an Uber with a guest potentially patronizing the resort.

No. I think it's only been a "thing" on the DIS.

Uber can go anywhere regular private vehicles can go, and since they're just dropping you off they won't be needing any parking.

I have found Uber/Lyft good for picking up and drop off to hotels but as far as navigating with in Disney it’s been difficult. The apps are not always totally accurate about where you are and they can’t enter a lot of places where you would like to be picked up from, especially outside the parks (vs in front of your hotel).

I used it several times at the end of long nights in March to go from a resort or Disney Springs back to my resort. Only used once in September from Disney Springs to the resort. Very quick and convenient. I plan to most likely use it a bit in March again.

Right. Lyft, in particular is not good about pickup locations -- and it has nothing to do with Disney. Probably half of my Lyft pickup spots in Miami are wrong -- something about the way their app talks to Google Maps. And I'm not talking about a few feet -- I've had several on the wrong side of the river!

I use Google Maps with Uber too, and never have a problem.

The key thing to remember about resorts is whether or not the interior of the resort is open to regular traffic. Some are, some are not. Those which have gated access in places will usually require pickup and dropoff at the main lobby. If you're staying in one of those resorts, just ask at checkin -- it's a very common question.

Regarding drop off via uber at the Contemporary - I did it once in October and also last week. The first time the Uber driver told me he’d just say I’m dining there to get through and that’s what he did with no issues getting in. Last week I really was planning to eat breakfast at the Contempo cafe so said that. The guard said I needed a reservation or a DVC card to get in. I said the Contempo is quick service so I don’t have a reservation. I think he might have been confused that I was trying to go somewhere at Bay lake towers? Anyway then he checked with another guard standing there and said that’s fine I can go through. So just know if if you simply say you’re walking to MK they may not let you in the gate...

We used Uber/Lyft last week a couple of times. Once to park hop from dhs to AK to make a FoP fp after riding ROTR. Another was to get to MK for an adr and the bus wasn’t coming where we were staying. Also used it twice to go from resort to resort for adrs.

Weird. It seems to vary some by who is at the gate. My driver in November just said 'Uber' and they waved him through.

We use uber or lyft every day we are in Disney if we don’t get a rental car.
download both apps and check each one when you need a ride. A lot of times the prices can vary by a few dollars.
It could all be in my head but I always get tons of promos from both services when I continually check the price then close the app. They aren’t dumb, they know we are checking prices to see who is lower.

I use UBER/LYFT quite often when I a traveling your question on how many can fit? That depends the app says 4 but in reality 4 can fit if they are small people and it depends on the size of the vehicle the driver is has. I think 3 fit comfortably in most cars, In most SUV you can do the 4, however if you need more room just step up using the app for the larger vehicles.

Yes have they can drop you at T&T but you have gotten good suggestions here about having them drop you at a resort. Also beware that the "MINNIE" vans do cost more than normal UBER/LYFT.

Ride categories vary a good bit from market to market, but the capacities are shown on the app when you get the fare quote.

The capacity will either be 4 or 6, but keep in mind that the capacity assumes NO luggage. When DW, DD and I are headed to an airport, we always order XL (capacity 6).

Disney's MinnieVans are WAY more than Uber/Lyft XL. WAY more. I believe the base fare recently increased to $17, and I forget what the per-mile fare is -- possibly $3.25 per mile in addition to the $17?

We used Minnie Vans when they first came out and I want to say they were either $20 or $25 flat fee and no tip? Anyway, sounds like they are now $30+, or at least twice as expensive as Uber/Lyft. No thanks.

Right. MV was initially $20, then $25 flat rate. Then they went to $15 base + $2.75 per mile, which raised some fares into the $40+ range. And just in the last month or so they raised their rates again.

That's a standard Disney practice -- remember the Disney Dining Plan? Remember theme park admission prices? The MV fare progression is nothing new, and it will continue.

Contemporary Resort drop off can be odd for sure...we've had Uber drop us off there both when we were staying at Bay Lake Tower, and when we were using it to get to MK easily. Never a single problem. However on our last trip in May our Nephew & his wife took a Uber to meet us (again, we were staying at BLT) and the guards gave them all kinds of grief and wouldn't let them in to join us for dinner there, although he finally relented when the wife asked him to call his supervisor.
Nephews wife is a CM at WDW!

I find this weird (but encountered it myself). I should be able to just say "I'm visiting the resort" and they should let the driver through. I don't need a dining reservation or a room to go walk around the resort.

We (2 adults, 2 kids) used Uber for our HS/AK days from Poly, for about $25 (before tips) round-trip each day. The pickups coming back were even easier than I expected! I liked how the app knew you were in the park or resort and made it clear where the pickup was.

For our early HS day to try for ROTR, I pre-scheduled our 6 AM pickup, and that was a super convenient process too. Our driver showed up in a Maserati and played smooth jazz on the way, it was the most relaxing ride around WDW I can recall.
