How many people know the date they found the DIS?

I do!! It was 5 years ago today!!! St. Patrick's Day makes it easy to remember.

I was looking for DVC info and from Deb's site, found Ada Raymond's Disney Trips and she had a link to this site and was singing Pete's praises because he helped her put her site back up after a crash. I thought, what a nice guy! Once I found the DVC board, I lurked for about 5 minutes and jumped right in with my questions. KarenNY (whose lead I followed when creating my name) was one of the first to email me and I remember thinking how nice this community was.

I planned the first DIS meet for May 22 (I think) of that year (there were 10 of us), met Pete and never looked back. It amazes me how the site has evolved since then. I remember when he first brought us on as mods (I think there were 4 mods at first), and added more boards....and more boards....and more.... The content is well over 1000 pages and is constantly being updated now. We spun off Dreams in the fall of 1999 and have had amazing success with that.

I can't believe the opportunities and the wonderful friends I have found just by clicking on the right link.

Although I don't remember the exact date, I came to the DIS in June of 1998. It'll be 5 years in just a few months!

but it was in October of 1998. You CC are one of the first disers I remember. ( and always the nicest to me!) Cruella was another. ( Miss her!). I remember when Pete was a regular on the boards and chat!

I know I am in Dec 1998, but I don't remeber the date. I really just lurked until I got the Swan on Priceline and had a huge enormous post on the then very popular Budget board. Then I came over to the Resort Board and from there to here on the CB.

Wow time does fly!!!

I had to check my profile to get my exact date. August 19, 2000. I was researching for our Sept 2000 trip. I think I lurked for awhile before I registered. I didn't really get into dis'ing until May of 2001 though. I still have some of my first posts saved in my WDW trip binder.

For me, it was the fall of 1998, I was pregnant with Drew at the time and we were planning our first Disney vacation that next summer.

I always measure my DIS tenure by Drew's age.

The people I remember most when I first started posting were CC (who I was convinced was a tall blonde!), Baloo, Kelsie, and Candy. The big deal when I started posting was reading Candy's trip reports, she was so detailed and organized, and wondering if Kelsie would get up her nerve to do Tower of Terror.

Shortly thereafter, I found the Inspiration Board, then hosted by Ahnalira, who I came to know and build a friendship with; then she left and Nikole and Carebear were the Mods. Don't know whatever happened to Carebear, she was fun! Michelle (who was then just Michelle, not WM Michelle) and Judy from Boise started posting around the same time as me, I guess, and we all got to be good friends, and eventually, fellow IB Co-Mods.

Happy 5th Birthday, cc! Hard to imagine my life without you.

I found you guys on 8/7/00, while planning our land/sea vacation. My sister(Cap2000) actually found this place and turned me on to it. She will still lurk from time to time, and occasionally post but Ive become the addict.

Not sure of the date, but know it was around April of '99. After having gone to WDW for the first time in the Spring of '98 for a business convention (doing that same one in two weeks ), I started to plan a trip for my family (that's a LONG story, and reachable in the first link in my spinner clipart).

I think I came to the DIS, back then in a very different format/style and so very much smaller, through a link, maybe on Deb's site. I first started with the non-board content, and when seeing the 'Discussion Board' link, wondering who the heck would want to discuss anything on the Internet, much less Disney. After a bit, I finally looked and asked my first board question (then only about 4 or so boards). I guess from that point, I never looked back.

When Dreams started, as Cathy said, in the fall of '99, my family and I were able to be the very first trip was taken through DU, and a very nice one it was, a memory forever. And, Cathy was our agent.

My family and I got to meet Cathy, along with about 30 or so other DIS'ers, at Pete's Chistmas party (a much smaller DIS allowed that back then) at Disney Quest one evening. That was my very first DIS meet, of many to follow, and the first DIS'ers I met, of many to follow.

It's five years for me too, but I don't know the exact date. I do know I found the site in the spring/summer of 1998 some time.

February 6, 2000. I was planning a trip to WDW for my niece and my surrogate grandson (her child). There was a board crash about a week after I registered and the boards were down for 3 or 4 days. I was already addicted and went through terrible withdrawal When the boards returned they wouldn't allow me to post using my original user name, Katholyn, so I had to register again (on 2/16/00). That's how I became nativetxn.

Everyone lost their post counts in that crash, too. I remember all the moaning and gnashing of teeth about lost post counts when the boards came back up again.

I asked lots of questions on the planning boards and got lots of answers and then I ran out of questions and started looking around the DIS and found the community board. Well, I was hooked forever, once I found the cb.

I'm just a newbie compared to a lot of DISers, but I'm still a DISer after 3 years

I joined the DIS on 9/11/99. The strange thing about this date is not only the obvious...

When I joined back in 1999 I only visited once in a while or if I was planning a WDW trip, but when 9-11 happened I was drawn the CB on a much more regular basis to read the news, share comfort & express grief.

I don't think I would have taken a cruise if it hadn't been for these boards. We booked the Disney Magic last October through DU & we are now hooked!!!
