How many people are usually in your DL convoy?

My mom took her kids and grandkids 2 years ago, so there were 11 of us (I am the baby and am the only one not married with kids). We usually were split up and met back for parades and meals since 3 of my nephews were over 16 and it was like pulling teeth to get them to do anything for more than 5 minutes with the little nieces.

Usually there are 7 of us - my family of 5 and my in-laws. After my MIL's health problems and the detimental effects of that on our last WDW vacation we won't travel with them again. My father and step-mother may want to go with us though, so we might again be a group of 7.

My last trip to DL was with a group of 17 ranging from 4 mnths to 71 years old. It seemed like such a good idea when planning.........Anyway, we had MANY disagreements. Everywhere, over everything. There were just way too many strong personalities in one group. It was definetly still a great trip I would say, I just wouldn't do it again. Ever.

Our next trip is me, DH, DD, DS, my mom and my dad. I am so excited I can't stand it. My mom and I are very similar personalities (she is where I get my craziness) and both DH and dad know to just go along with our madness because in the end, it actually does make sense.

Wow! Some large family sizes! We have went from three people all the way to... ten-ish. My Mom's family is pretty mellow so we don't tend to bump heads- we let DH take the lead and take care of where we are going and when we need to be there.

After 2 days we can all split up and do what we want. That is all of us but my parents. Someone has keep them in their party. We would lose mom and dad for sure if we let them wander around DLR by themselves:laughing:
 I can just picture your poor mom and dad wandering lost thru DL! You should be sure to have a little talk :chat: with them and discuss "the plan" in case you get separated!

davidsprincess, I see you are a thread killer in your siggy. Is that official or unofficial? I saw the thread killer thread and thought about joining in but was a little shy. Also, I wasn't sure if was mostly WDW folks or if there were any from the DL board.

Anyway, back on topic! Here's how our trips have been:
  • 1st was 4 of us, DH, DS, DD and myself.
  • 2nd was 5 of us. Our 4 plus step-D.
  • 3rd was 4 of us again.
  • 4th was 6 of us. Our 4 plus step-D and son-in-law.
  • 5th was just the 4 of us again.
  • 6th was 8. Our 4 plus step-D, son-in-law, grandson and DS's friend.
  • 7th was just us 4 again.
  • 8th trip will be 7, our 4 plus DS's friend again and her father and sister.
Hmm, seems to be a pattern here.

Friends can be fun but I really prefer just the four of us. This year we get the best of both worlds. One week with friends and the second week of just our family. When it is just us, we start out in the mornings together, ride a few rides then split up. From there, my DD and I usually ride the "kiddie rides" while DH and DS do the "big stuff". Then we meet back up for lunch together, ride a few rides together and split again. We check in often and if one of us is in line for something that interests the other we will meet up in between times. With a 10 year age difference between our kids they are just not all that interested in the same stuff. For the most part, I like getting the one on one time with my DD and DH enjoys spending time with DS. Every now and then we switch and DH takes DD and I go with DS. Splitting up for us just makes decisions so much simpler and no one has to spend too much time just sitting and waiting. :thumbsup2

I always like to do groups, but nobody either seems to get their act together or else they flake on us. Just one of those things, I guess.

I'm really envious of the big family groups like yours and Jazz's. We have a really small family (just me and my bro and hubby and his bro - no parents anymore) that doesn't have the same tastes or goals in a vacation. It's like pulling teeth to get everyone together for the sake of my kids and it's only happened once (and to Monterey, not DL or WDW). It would be nice to say "Let's go to WDW - rooms are taken care of due to DVC - and have a good time together for the sake of the kids!" and have everyone happily agree!

Thanks Nancy !!

I have to say though that even though we do have tons of fun as a big group this past time was a bit too hectic because of how busy it was this last weekend. People were getting cranky and the lack of the New Orleans Railroad Station didn't help at all because we are typically there A LOT during our vacation so it was a bit of zigzagging.

I think if we have a big group like we did this past time, we should go during the off season. It would be PERFECT because we all get along so well :)
