I've never been to Disney World before. How many pennies do I need to take?
I'm excited about the pressed pennies.

You can just get change when your there if you don't want to carry around a roll. There are machines everywhere.

Don't worry about the pennies, worry about the quarters. You will need 2 quarters for every penny you press.

At last count there were over 250 pressed penny designs at WDW. Most machines have three designs.

1,000 different penny designs! :faint:
That's a lot of change! But I'm up to the task. I think I will use the change machines at the park for the quarters, but I read the post on how to clean pennies, so I guess I'll do that for the pennies.
Thanks all!

No. What I wrote was confusing (It was confusing to me when I read it after submitting it :teeth: ). There are over 250 designs, maybe 85-100 machines.

I'm sorry I'm confused please can someone explain? pressed pennies? :confused3 am I missing something
We are going for the first time too & I'd just like to know as much about all this as I can so as not to miss anything (if that's at all possible :flower: )

Quarter presses too!!! Do those cost .50 as well?

don't we wish :teeth:

actually, it costs $1.25. The machine takes 5 quarters. one for pressing and the other four is the cost for pressing.

There might be about 40 of those machines only. And each machine only has one design.

Here is some information on what they are.

pressed coins

It a fun thing to do, but its best you don't get hooked. We don't collect the quarters, but we have 9 books of pressed pennies from WDW (each book holds 36 pennies) and based on the latest list, WDW has changed some machines, so next month we need to hunt them down.

A Few pressed penny tips:

Use an empty Mini M & M tube to hold the money. I put 2 quarters and then a penny , then 2 quarters and then a penny, etc. I used an empty 35 mm film conatiner to hold the pressed coins. ( I didn't do the quarter presses but the same would apply).

I let each child decorate their tube with stickers and only carried a few sets of coins to make a pressed peny each day. (otherwise it's too heavy to carry)

I got a list of the machines off allearsnet.com (I think) and we tried to go off that.

We didn't go through as many of our coins on our last trip as I thought we would, so I will limit each child to 7-10 pressed pennies.

I put some adhesive magnet strips on the back and put them on our fridge.

I also learned on this board about using pre-1982 pennies because they press better w/o the shiny metal look when they are pressed. ( I forget what they added to the pennies in 1982).

They are also fun souveniers to bring home for the children in your child's class or others.

You can also get a list from guest services @ the parks. We had a CM at MGM that printed us a list of all the presses in all parks and resorts. of course its more fun to hunt them down, but some are "hidden" in out of the way places.

Have fun :cool1:
