How many Pajamas are normal?

I have 3 lightweight nightgowns (disney) and 1 heavy weight one. I wear them only once and wash. I do laundry 5 days a week (when a load builds, in the washer it goes. I don't save up laundry). My husband nor my kids wear pjs except on Christmas Eve for the morning gift opening photo-op.
To me- 40 articles of any category of clothing is excessive(I probably own 40 pieces of clothing -total (not counting undergarments & socks) - dont' have the closet or drawer space :)

I have a mixture of things that I wear in the winter, a couple pair of PJ pants and probably 3 or 4 winter nightgowns. For summer, I have 3 or 4 summer nightgowns, but more often than not, I just wear a t-shirt.

I wouldn't know where to put 23 pairs of winter PJs.

We love pajamas!! As soon as we are "done" with going out for the day, we shower and get into our jammies!! :cloud9: I would say we each have 7-10 pairs.

I think if you have more than you are actually wearing then you have too many. If you have 5 - 8 that you actually are wearing those are the ones you keep. The rest go to Goodwill.

Personally I have 2 sweatpants and 2 yoga pants that I wear as PJ's. I have one pair of christmas "mickey" PJ's, I didn'realize they were christmas until I had worn them a couple times

I love PJs. I have at least 10 summer and 10 winter sets, but I use them and enjoy them. I guess there are probably a few pairs I should donate as they are getting old, but I have room for them now. When the shelf gets full, out some go to Goodwill.

2 pair that I wear in the winter or for hanging out in the house. I sleep without most of the year.

I would say 5-6 pairs per person for winter, 3-4 in the summer but I wash clothes every day so that's not a problem.

I have very few "sets". But if you put all the nightgowns, nighties, pj pants/tshirts together, I probably have 30 complete pairs (they might not match, but they are a pair lol). Half for winter, half for summer.

I have 4 for summer, 4 for winter, a drawer full of lingerie I never wear (9 or so nighties) and 2 pairs of jammies I leave at our cabin.

Everyone's different, but I seriously need to pare down!

I have a lot, but I LOVE pjs! I have a drawer for "summer" and a shelf in my closet for winter. If you saw how many, you might think excessive but I don't. I have a walk in closet so space isn't an issue, and I do rotate them and wear them all or I wouldn't keep them- I get rid of them when necessary (if they don't fit or I don't wear them) I also don't do laundry very often - maybe once every two weeks so having a lot of clothes helps with this. I'm not a hoarder though :)

I probably have about 10 pairs. But then again, I tend to wear them all day long if I don't have somewhere to go. And I will admit it right here on the Disboards, I have been known to wear my PJ pants and t-shirts to drop my child off at her dance classes:rotfl: But I would never dare get out of the car wearning them.

The good thing about having as many as the OP has is that you can wait a long time before doing laundry!:thumbsup2

I have a lot too but I wear a new pair every night so it does not seem like that much. I have one small drawer full of bottoms and another small drawer full of tops.

Same here! I LOVE pj's. DH usually just wears t shirts and flannel pj pants. The girls usually just wear girl boxer shorts and t shirts, but me? Oh, that is a different story. In fact, I just bought a new pair Saturday (they were OP and on clearance at Walmart, I got the tank top for $3 and the pants for $5). I probably have 15-20 pair. I don't like nightgowns or the capri bottoms. Nothing silky, only cotton or flannel. Everyone has things that they buy that make them happy, for me it's books and pj's. And like the poster above, as soon as I would get home from work, I would head straight to the bedroom and change into my pj's. There are a pair of pj's Tina Fey wore this season (I think) on 30 Rock that I keep meaning to try and find. They have cupcakes all over them. New pj's make me happy!
I haven't read the whole thread, but why don't you see if you can donate a couple of your least favorite pairs to Goodwill and see how that makes you feel. If you get anxious about it and cannot bring yourself to get rid of them, then your feelings might be something you would want to talk to someone about. You might just be someone who loves pj's!:lovestruc

i found the pj's from 30 Rock

Maybe I can talk my dad and DH into going in together to get these for my birthday. I cannot bring myself to spend $86 on pj's!

Would the thought of getting rid of any of the pajamas send you into a panic attack or other distress?

And that's what I get for not reading the whole thread before I post!
Yes, this is a question you need to ask yourself. And also try and give up a couple of pair. You may not even realize how big of a deal it could be until you try and get rid of a pair or two. If you can do it without even really caring, then I think you are just fine. Hoarders by nature, cannot bring themselves to get rid of anything or in some cases, one particular type of thing, like bathroom towels or shoes etc.

OP, I have two pair of pjs-one for summer and one for winter. Then I have a couple nightgowns for hot or cold weather as well. I think you should wait to buy more when one or two wear out. 40 pairs of sleepwear is a lot.

To the OP: I would be more concerned if your pjs were mostly NWT and never worn. My late M-I-L was a clothes hoarder who was saving her clothes for "some day". That day never came.

I don't see a difference between having 40 pair of PJs and 80 pair of shoes.

I've lost a lot of weight (70+ pounds) over the last year or so, so I haven't had a chance to "accumulate" a lot of clothes in my new smaller size. I've been donating/tossing clothes as I've gotten smaller, and buying just a little at a time.

Right now, I have two pair of warm weather pajamas and one pair of cold weather pajamas (flannel). In the fall, I'll probably buy one or two more pairs of cold weather pajamas...but for now, 2 pairs of "current weather" pajamas is all I really need.

I have 2 pair per season,so 4 total-one for the wash,one to wear you have a LOT

I think I have about 5 or 6 for summer, but I work full time so I don't lounge around in them for very long during the day. Also, I take my showers at night, so I wear the same PJ's for 3 nights before tossing them into the hamper.
I don't think you should consider yourself a hoarder based ont he number of PJ's you have. Maybe if you kept old, worn out ones that you never wore anymore, or had many that were new and unused, you might have reason for concern, but otherwise I wouldn't worry.
Hey, some women have 50 pairs of shoes, or 50 handbags, so why would 50 PJ's automatically make someone a hoarder?
