We have a system (I have a system for EVERYTHING): When they were younger, my kids WOULD NOT close up the cereal, and it was always going stale or being knocked over in the pantry, where it'd spill.

Solution: I bought THREE Rubbermaide pour-type containers that each hold one box of cereal. We do not eat cereal "out of the box" -- ever. Instead, we pour a box into one of these containers. It's easy to close, it's easy for small hands to pour out, and bugs can't get in.

Bonus: The kids have no idea whether they're eating name-brand or store-brand cereal. They cannot tell the difference from taste.

Bonus: We can't start another box until one of our "current" cereals is finished, and we eat it at a fast enough rate that it doesn't go stale. Usually we have two boxes of "kid stuff" and one box of adult-type cereal open at a time.

Woo hoo! 6+ in the hizouse! haha

We seriously have probably closer to a dozen. We intend to throw most of them out as only two or three are actually fresh. Sad. They are in the bottom of the pantry and we never open that drawer except for cereal and we don't use that space for anything else, so they are easily forgotten - out of sight, out of mind. We tend to buy a new box when the others get low, and Publix is always doing Buy One, Get One Free deals so we can accumulate them rather quickly... to our eternal shame, hahaha. :)

Only 2 right now--Wheaties and Cheerios. DS12 doesn't like milk so he doesn't eat cereal. So its only what I open for me. The price of cereal (and everything else I guess) is RIDICULOUS!!! I buy it only on sale now. I buy a lot of store brands too, just to try to save something somewhere!!!

Wow, where do you live and shop? Cereal is my kids' favorite food. They eat it for breakfast, afterschool snack, substitute dinner if they hate what I've made, and often dry in a ziploc bag as a snack while watching tv. I usually buy at least 6 boxes every week. I try to buy whatever is on sale but cereal is pretty expensive!

We're in Northern MD and I shop mostly at the military Commissary at the Army base (DH is AD Army) but I also have had great luck with coupons at Safeway and Food Lion. Kellogg's had a bunch of coupons in the Sunday paper a few weeks back and I bought several papers. Food Lion has some of the Kellogg's cereals on sale this week BOGOF and you can use a coupon for each item you purchase. I ended up with name brand Froot Loops (the large box) for $1.35 each!

There was also a $10 rebate on cereal in that same coupon insert so after coupons and the rebate the cereal was free. There were extra coupons for sale on ebay last time I checked. The offer expires the end of September and is limit 1 per household.

4....Rice Krispies with Strawberries, generic Lucky Charms, Honey Smacks that are now a solid block :lmao: , and grapenuts granola type that I like to put on yogurt. I also had Cocoa Krispies but that got inhaled!

Dang! I didn't realize I had six opened boxes.

Trix
Froot Loops
Coco Puffs
Rice Krispies
Special K Protein
Frosted Shredded Mini Wheats

We do the "don't open the next one till this one is gone" but not to the point of only having one box opened! If the kids want to open up a new box because they talked me into a sugar-ie one, I will make them wait!

So we usually have 2-4 boxes open at once, although with having 4 kids, they don't last long at all!:lmao:

I have 2 different kinds of Special K open right now. One's Vanilla Almond and the other's Cinnamon-y something or other. :)

Only one at a time in my house. That way it lasts longer. I'm not made of money.

I voted other because I am too lazy to get up and look (I rarely eat cereal).
