How many of you take your kids out of school for WDW?

Our DDs (3rd, and K) will both be missing 5 days of school this year. Last year my oldest missed 4 for Disney.

Our school district allows for 5 vacation days each year, with the work to be made up at the discretion of the teacher.

Last year, my daughter did have to read for 20 minutes/day (does that anyway, whereever we are), make a budget, and track spending, write a journal, and track the miles traveled.

We haven't rec'd the assignments for this year yet, but my youngest's teacher has suggested a photo journal, and a show and tell report. When we had orientation w/ her, I noticed the WDW note pads, and desk set on her desk, I knew we would be OK with her.

My 3rd grader's teacher was also very supportive, and admitted that she too, has taken her kids out of school for vacations, when there breaks did not match up.

We will continue to do so, until scheduling, or grades/schoolwork doesn't allow for it. I hope that will not happen for awhile though. We love going during the spring or fall. No Heat, and No Crowds

My dh is a teacher and I refuse to to go peek season or summer(and with his school, he can only take 3 days off).... thus.. I take the girls to WDW without him(now that sounds horrible, but he prefers not to go due to severe flight vertigo, ect...)..... Anyhow... I will take them out yearly for a week. My oldest will be in kindergarten. To me, family memories are as important as a week of school. My girls are bright and I will be sure they do the work they need. We are going the week after thanksgiving, so i figure I can get her assignments and have them done before we leave.

At our old school we took DD out for a week the past couple of years and there was no problem. She just had to keep a journal of her trips (which turned out to be really great memories). But we have moved to a new school district (we used to live in Vt). Anyway, I really hadn't given it any thought. Then I read on the DIS that my school district (SHEN) does not allow kids to make up the work. And now I am nervous about the policy. My DD is an a great student (5th grade) and It would upset us both for her not to be able to make up the work. I know I have to contact the school and let them know but I've kind of been dragging my feet. I know I am doing the right thing. We really need this trip. We have had a lot of changes this year and my Dh has been gone for (Military school) 2 months and is not returning until April 15th one week before leave for WDW. I'm just nervous about telling the school since I've read that it is not "permitted" :sad2:
