The thought has entered my mind. Frightening at the present since I'm not in a position for a new vehicle right now. :scared1: Just thinking about it. Four years down on the loan, one to go. But I'm curious when you "owners" are ready to buy something newer. Is there a magical number for mileage?

For me not really. I know miles on the car can tell how well it will drive, but not always, if it's been well taken care of. I'd say, I plan to keep my PT Cruiser until it starts having problems. But I put a lot of highway miles on it, driving from the NH border to Medford, MA every day.

I think hostess in car dealer places are sexy

I voted for the top one. My DH has us on the every 2 yr plan. As soon as I know how to use everything on the car, he's looking for a new one. It's actually kinda embarrassing how many times we buy a car. Oh well!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me, about 30k...usually 2 years, I have 3 year lease's and turn them in a year early.

DH- he's got 97K on his truck which is 3 years old...he bought a diesel, so he's planning on about 300K...

He'll buy a new car before that and keep the truck...he's eyeing an 04 'vette at the dealership now

I don't put alot of miles on my car since it's only 6 miles to work, so I go more by years. I keep my cars about 5 years, that's usually when problems start creaping up and it's out of warranty. Plus I'm ready for something new.

I used to have to get a new one when it was time for rear brakes...LOL....now I keep them a little longer but I would never keep it past 50,000 miles. Once it hits that high I am afriad things will start breaking down adn I just don't want to deal with a car breaking down and needing to be towed when I am out driving around!

Sheri...That's true! Maintenance makes a lot of difference.

Jason...LOL! I'm sure you do. ;)

Slo...I'm betting you lease as opposed to own. I'm sure leasers are every 2 years or so.

mudnuri...97,000 in 3 years? :scared1:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...I should have made that poll go up to 100,000. I remember when 100,000 miles was a rare thing. Looks like more are keeping them. Are they built better these days?

My van has about 63,000 on it. It's sure not running like it did when I bought it 4 years ago. It's not bad, but I can tell it's starting. My Camaro I traded in for the van was at about 52,000. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...next time I go for the car with the T-roof! :)

We look for something new at 150K Kilometers being in Canada. It is 1.7 K in a mile. Oops sorry it is just over 80K miles on it.

We got rid of our Dodge Grand Caravan at around 70,000 miles. We did not look at the miles as much as our warrantee was expiring and I did not want to have it without the warantee since that vehicle had a great history of transmission problems. I did not want to loose the transmission without a warantee! Our Caravan prior to that one had to have the transmission repaired at 24,000 miles.

Now, you are probably thinking why did we get another Dodge? Well, DH is a Chrysler man.....and it is hard to convince him that any other make of vehicle is okay. Stubborn!!!!

Debbie...I used to work a job that was 6 miles away, it was great. Just applied for a job on Friday that would take me 12 minutes to drive. :Pinkbounc I'm crossing my fingers on that one!! That's including all the traffic lights that stop me! :)

aprilgail...I had traded in my Camaro after making one expensive repair and then another one came up. Yup, don't want one that's going to break down. It was bad enough having that in my 20s. Got stuck on the highway in the rain, at a shopping center late at night, and a few other times. NOT FUN! And now with a child, I'm not going there!!

LisaSt...I'll have to get my calculator. LOLOLOL!

AZKathy...LOL! My dad was like that about Fords. I've never had luck with Fords and will never own one. ;)

Let's see, first new car was an '88 VW...replaced it at 240,000. Still got well over 30 mpg, so I saw no reason to replace it...rock solid car. Ended up donating it to the Heart Association because it'd be a good car for someone.

DH got his Saturn new in fall of '92. It's got 260,000 and was my daily driver until I got the VW in July. We still have it, but it will be DH's project car.

You could say I like to get my money's worth out of my cars!

I vote 80,000 and more.

Way more. Del & I are around 130,000 miles each on our trucks and I have 100,000 on my mustang. They run great!

I don't worry about miles. If the vehicle is running good with low gas mileage and you take care of it, it should last a long time. I had a suburu that went 300,000.

A good tune up and regular oil changes can make all the differance in the world.

I have a 1995 Cavalier that I got new way back when. It's 9 years old and has 117,000 miles. These days I'm only putting about 500 miles a month on it because I'm a SAHM and the bank and such are all pretty close. It's running GREAT! I get good gas milage. I did have to have a new transmission put in at 106,000 miles but it was my fault. It's been sucha good car that my sister went a bought a new one this year. My dh has a 1993 diesel with less then 200,000 miles on it. I"m not sure of the exact number---I'm rarely in it. We plan on getting a new car this time next year. DH will probably be the one to drive it back and forth to work and I'll drive my car til the wheels fall off.

I usually don't look to get a knew car until there are problems with the old one :D. I had a six year loan on my 2000 Toyota Echo, so still 2 years to go. I am deffiently hopping for a few years of not having Car Payments. So I am sure my car will have close to if not over 100k on it before I look into getting a new one.

Poohnatic...Wow! You're not kidding! :Pinkbounc

Delswife...Thanks!! Tune ups and oil changes.

mommytutu...Sounds like you have good luck with them also.

I know I'm due for an oil change. Hopefully, that will make a difference.

I have 117,000+ miles on my Jetta and it's still holding strong! Few problems here and there, but the car is paid off and it's mine. I will drive that car til the engine falls out. No time soon though! ;)

My 2000 Jeep has 55,000 on it, and I'm going to trade as soon as we sell our house and have an idea of what we're going to be doing....

DH has a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 80,000 or so miles on it, he'll drive it until it dies. No problems with it so far, we bought it in Nov 2000.

Before this, I bought 5 cars in 6 years, if that tells you anything......

Steph

I have 108,000 on my chevy lumina apv...but looking to trade it in. I dont buy new cars though as they are a waste of money.
My ex has a volvo with over 207,000 miles on it.

Wow! Sounds like cars are being made better than in the past. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...wonder if my doubting them has anything to do with the first car I had...an AMC Hornet. :scared1: :scared1: HORRIBLE! Plus only my last 2 vehicles have been newer ones. That's a huge difference.
