We are going to WDW :yay:in December 2015 and I want to be prepared to keep up with 3 DGDs, how many miles a day would you walk to be ready for WDW starting now?

I would make sure you can walk 3 miles at a time without pooping out. I wore a pedometer a few years ago just out of curiosity and I averaged 8 miles per day but that was a very " laid back "trip and we spent a lot of time just lounging by the pool. In addition, we have been over 50 times so we know a lot of short cuts and don't spend all day in the parks. I think a more average "average" is probably over 10 miles per day believe it or not. You are not walking for 3 miles straight though, so it is not as bad as it sounds. Actually for me, the roughest thing on my body is the standing in lines. It really bothers my lower back by day three. Advice: at least 2 pair of good shoes and rotate them ( I switch after our afternoon break) Sit whenever you can, try to schedule a real break in the afternoon for pool or nap (or BOTH) .If your resort has a hot tub, use it and bring tylenol or advil. Have a great trip :)

We just returned 2 weeks ago and I had a step counter app on my phone....

We're 2 65 year olds in good health and have done WDW 52 trips so staying from opening to close is not our bag.... We're early to the parks.. Out by 11-12:00....resort pool till 4-5:00 and back at a park for a couple hours rarely making it to closing...

Average was 8500 steps ... times 2.5' stride...comes to 21,250 feet which is 4 miles a day ... Some days we walked a little further but average for a 7 day vacation cones to 5.25 miles a day...

Thank you for the input. I think I will shoot for 4-5 miles a day in the next 14 mos. I already have gotten my gait analyzed and invested in good walking/running shoes to wear while I am "training" for trip with the entire family.

I plan on taking 2 pairs of shoes and depending on the weather, a pair of hiking Tevas in case it rains.

I've found over all our trips.... walking around the block is a lot different than Disney walking...Disney walking it's the constant stopping and starting over guests that use different muscles ....

Also about shoes.... We've found that after the first day, feet swell and don't really return back to normal after that first day... That's when the soreness and blisters begin....shoes get tighter and rubbing starts...second pair of shoes should be well broken in to the extent of a half size larger... To accommodate the swelling...

I have no problem wearing crocs all day... first introduction to them, I was skeptical... after quite a while they grew on me and became so comfortable it's basically my real go to footwear..
