How many Michigan DVC's are there?

Hi Neighbors!!!!!:D
I'm Laura & I live in Brighton:D We joined the DVC last May bt have yet to take our first trip as DVC members. We've gone too many times to count as non-DVCers.
Terry-Thanks for posting about our meet!
Everyone is invited & encouraged to come!! We will meet in the food court at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi at lunch time on 2-15-03:D We have a great time & would love to meet any and all other MI Disers!:D If you need more information use Terry's link to the Community Board thread or send me a PM!
Hope to see everyone there!:D

We are from Macomb Township, just a few minutes down the road from you Todsue99. We just bought last summer, and made our first trip (using points) in December. We are busy getting ready to leave for the Members Cruise this weekend and we have a Grand Villa at OKW booked for September.

We have always driven straight through, but after this past Decembers trip DH swears off driving down there anymore. Maybe it was our 16 yo DD and her friend that got to him
The trip back wasn't too bad, since they were under the weather we stopped and bought a bottle of Nyquil for them - worked like a charm! Nice quiet trip home!!!!!!

See you all at the MI Dis meet at 12 Oaks next month.

We're in Redford. :) We usually fly, but drove 3x in a 6-month time span after 9/11. We flew last trip, and it was *wonderful*. Dh wants to drive in October (we have a conversion van so it's not too terrible) but I think our marriage is worth the extra $300 or so it would cost to fly and rent a car. ;) (He's a very scary driver! LOL)

We fly Spirit every time -- haven't been able to beat their fares or departure times -- and have never been disappointed. :)

I think I might be able to talk dh into the MI DIS meet if he's not working that day ... sounds fun! :teeth:

Welcome Home Laura!

#1 mouse have fun on the Cruise. Please let us know if and how much you enjoyed it. I have not been on a cruise and I am not sure if I want to go on one. I hear that they are a lot of fun and everyone enjoys them so we are starting to warm up to the idea so any information will help. Thanks.

Wow - I'm going to miss meeting more Michigan DVC/DISers - hope you have a great meet. I hope there will be another one planned soon - I don't think I've met many of you. But I will see some on the Cruise - can't wait!:Pinkbounc

Lars - I have more Christmas pictures to show you sometime - make sure you plan the next meet at the Feb one - I'll be thinking about you when I'm "Home".

Have a great meet!

Oh, to answer some of the questions before - dh and I have driven and flown down but now I do the driving - that way I can visit on my way down and he will fly in to Orlando or Myrtle via Spirit. That helps me escape the cold that much sooner and he is still working so that works for us.

We drive down from East Lansing and go to Tennessee and then cut through the Carolina's-that way we don't have to drive I-75 through Georgia- :( We just enjoy the scenery in the Carolina's.

HH would be a good place to stay to break up the trip. It's usually not too bad of a drive and we have a 4 and 6 year old. We were just thinking about flying and then 9/11-so we will drive for a few more years and then maybe I'll get up the nerve to fly. It would be nice to be in Florida in 3-4 hours.

Here in Michigan I know of atleast 5 DVC members. Total we have more then 5500 points. As far as driving vs flying.... I always fly. It is so nice to arrive quickly. It takes exactly 6 hours from the time I leave my front door until I am in my room at BCV.

I did a quick cost comparison, let me know what you think.
If I fly down Sunday AM I can get tickets for $200. This sets me up for an arrival at around 3:00pm. I get a full days sleep so I am ready to go when I get there. If I work on Saturday (8 hours), I get OT and will make $280. As far as I can tell I am $80 up! I spend that for a towncar with grocery stop and am all set for transportation. I think this even works for those with little kids because of the gas and wear and tear on the car you save, it is 19hours. ( i am not trying to flame anyone, I really enjoyed this thread. I always wondered why people drove down.)

Leave for BCV on Sunday, CANT WAIT!!!

We drive down because of cost. You can get a plane ticket for $200 or so. Multiply that by 4 and you are up to $800. Gas and food is half that. We do not spend the night anywhere, so there is no hotel cost. We leave at 6 or 7 in the evening and that gets us there around 1 or 2 the next day. Which gives you time for the pool or the park and dinner if you have an annual pass. It has worked out well for us.

Redwing - where do you live in Southgate? I grew up there and DH is from Lincoln Park - we now live in Novi. We usually take 2 long trips each year so we prefer to drive - plus 4 plane tickets are costly. Our kids are good travellers so the ride isn't too bad. Plus, I love being able to bring whatever we want with us and we like to drive our own car to the parks rather than wait for the bus. We also like to hit the outlets and off-site restaurants etc. Since kids are both in car seats it's just nice to have our own stuff IMO rather than renting a car, car seats etc. People think we're crazy for driving twice a year but it doesn't bother us too much. We own at OKW but haven't stayed there - have stayed at VWL and BWV so far.

Hi, todsue99! I'm from Rochester Hills, so we are most definitely neighbors. :D I've been a member since 2000, and have 375 points, some at BWV and some at BCV. I usually fly down, but drove down for my December trip when I took my 2 nieces along. They helped drive, and we had a great trip. Now it will be back to flying for the forseeable future. Saves on time and aggravation. ;)

Travelbug I actually live in Rochester Hills also. I live in a sub off Old Perch by West Middle School. How about you neighbor?

Todsue99, I live in south Rochester Hills near M-59 and Rochester Road. I'm very familiar with your part of town too. I've been in this community for almost 23 years. How about you? Very nice to meet you, neighbor!

I grew up in Utica and DW and I went to Oakland University. We have lived in Rochester since we got married in 1987.

That's great! This is a terrific place to live, in spite of being pretty pricey.

I'm glad you started this thread. It's always fun to catch up on who all is from Michigan.

Anyone else?

I am always amazed whenever we do this that there are not more West Michigan people. We have belonged since 97. I know of three other DVC ers in this area, unfortunatly they don't hang out on the DIS.

We always fly, I can't put a dollar value on those extra days spent at Disney rather than on the road. Especially that last one. It sometimes hurts because we need 5 tickets, but it always seems worth it on saturday when others are leaving in their cars and we are flying out tommorrow.

boo mc we live by dix-toledo road and northline we have both lived in southgate for most of our lives dont think we can be at the metting at novi our 5th wedding anniv is coming up on feb 14 and we might be going out of town so maybe if anyone will be at the bcv between june 27 and july 7 we will see u there :Pinkbounc :bounce:

redwing, I grew up nearby, in Taylor near Ecorse and Allen Rds area back when it was all still farm land. That was awhile ago! Now I live up in Ludington, where it really is farmland! Since we go to Florida 3 times per year, we always alternate between flying and driving. We just got tickets out of GR for $294 each for spring break, which wasn't bad. But we drove at Christmas, and I was SO glad we did, because I threw the winter coats in the back seat of the car. With the freezing weather during part of the trip, those coats felt so good--I have never been that cold in Michigan!:p

toddsue, I don't usually use all my 700 points, but it depends on the year. Generally, the February contract goes for the trip at spring break, the March contract goes for the summer trip, and the August contract goes for Christmas, but I can't go every year, due to the number of points it takes. For the 2003 trip, I had to borrow nearly all my 2004 points, so I won't be able to go again for a few years. :(

We are from Roseville and have owned at OKW since 2000. Every time we go home we ponder an add-on and wonder why we did not buy sooner. We are anxiously awaiting our upcoming trip. It is not coming soon enough!!! We cannot even fathom the idea of driving. It is so much nicer to hop on a plane and get there in 2.5 hours!! The thought of driving with 2 kids and a husband would be enough to send me to the looney bin!!!
