The exchange audit submitted to the state of FL recently lists 123,391 members as of the end of 2007. This is likely the number of separate memberships from other info we've seen and not the number of individuals, for which the number of 350K has been tossed around.

Hi Everyone! I just got bck from WDW on the 7/25 and I became a member on my trip. My home is AKV................I'm so excited. I already went to contract and ll the paper work is complete.

We travel to WDW alot and will get lots of use out of it. So I guess you can add me to the growing list of members.

Does anyone know how DVD counts members? For example, I'm the sole owner of one master contract, with 3 add-on's...so am I four members or one? And for those who share ownership (husbands and wives, for example)...does that count as one member or two? I would think one person who has two (or more) master contracts would count as two (or more) members?

It would seem from postings here that there are a lot of us who've done add-on's--many to our master contracts; some as separate contracts...I'd be interested in knowing if an add-on increases the member number or not...

Thanks!

I don't know 100% but the info I have suggests that they use different numbers for different purposes depending on the purpose involved. The exchange company audits appears to use the number of master contracts but it could also be the number of total contracts (master plus add ons). The news releases and other info lately that have used numbers of or around 350K likely use the number of unique names associated with DVC though I suspect they are counting associates in that group as well. I've asked for clarification, we'll see if it is forthcoming.

I was watching the DVC channel while staying at Beach Club Villas. On that channel they are using the 300,000 number.

But I suspect Dean's posting from the Florida audit numbers is probably the better apples to apples number. My family should probably be counted as 1 member, but for promotional purposes I suspect Disney counts us as 5 members.

I saw a chart on another website that listed member totals for the biggest timeshare operations. At that time Disney was 7th on the list at around 100,000 plus members which was much smaller than the very large operations like Wyndam and Bluegreen.

When DW,DD & I joined in 2005(UY) it was
barely 100K...now it seems to
have sky rocketed!:thumbsup2

Best kept secret? Not for long!

Considering the # of people visiting WDW
compared to the # of DVCers...it's still
relitively a small amount that own,
or am I wrong in my theory?

For what it's worth, I wouldn't ever go
back in time and change our decision to buy DVC!:cool1:

As a current member is it better in other peoples opinion to have more members or less members.

The answer is, it depends. New members belong to a newer resort in most cases and a lot of the effect of those extra points is dependent on the relative demand of that resort compared mostly to BWV, BCV & VWL. If the relative demand is less as is SSR, OKW, VB & HH; that makes the 7 month reservations more difficult at the in demand resorts at 7 months out and by trickle down effect, reservations more difficult all the way back to the 11 mo window at those resorts. But it might increase the chances of getting something at 7 months out in many situations. And it does give more choices ultimately. As an II member it's a big win because it increases the chances I can trade in and save my owned points for trips more suited to using points or as an add on to a 7 day stay gotten through II.

The number of rooms drives the number of members. If DVC were to cap membership near its current levels, there would be no Contemporary DVC, no Disneyland DVC, no Hawaii DVC, no Poly DVC, etc.

As Dean illustrated, there are pros and cons to both. I suspect most people enjoy seeing more and more destinations added to our ownership, but the cost of those destinations is a continuous growth in member totals.
