How many hours before your flight do you leave WDW?

I just got my invoice from Virgin Holidays for our Fly Drive package in January and in all my excitement I goofed and put us on the early flight home (18:05 opposed to the 19:55 flight). Trying to figure how much time we will have on or last day. What time do you have to check-in for a Virgin flight back to the UK? We are staying onsite at the AKL.

I might just bite the bullet and pay the £25 per person change fee to stay a bit longer...

Once we've checked out I just want to go. The last day is a waiting game for me. This time round we checked out of WDW at 11:00 and then went (via SuperTarget) to Seminole Towne Center shopping centre before wandering off to Sanford at 17:00. Next time we'd probably go to the zoo which is near there.

We do the DTD check in at 8.30 to get rid of the luggage, then go to a park or water park for the day. We tend to get back to MCO about 90 mins before the flight, a little earlier if there is a car to return. That way there's not too much hanging around.

We always use the downtown disney check in if flying with Virgin, makes it so much easier, check in opens at 8.30am and you only have to be at the airport and hour or so before your actual flight (may be an hour and a half, not much longer I don't think). We usually get the 7.55pm flight so it gives us practically the whole day, we always hire a car for the last day too, makes it easier with getting to the airport, if you have Virgin transfers i expect they would pick you up a lot earlier.

Hope this helps.

On Sunday, our flight was 8:10pm. Did not get to MCO until 6:00pm to check the car back in. Was airside by 6:30pm, yet they did not start boarding at the gate until 7:10pm. By the time we got on board it was almost 8:00pm. Your assigned your seat, so what's the rush? There is nothing to do once your airside at MCO. Make the most of it like we did by going shopping at an hour or so at Typhoon Lagoon.

Again we use the DTD check in. Last year we didn't have a car (only there for a week) so we got a cab from ASMo to DTD, can't remember how much it cost but was reasonable. Once we had got rid of our luggage we caught the bus from DTD to AKL where we had breakfast and then we got the bus to MK where we spent the day. We left the MK at 5:00 got bus back to ASMo to pick up our hand luggage and got to the airport an hour or so before our flight. We had booked a car to/from the airport before leaving the UK.

I really don't like hanging around airports and it's a nicer way to finish the holiday.

We sat and had a drink before our flight and got talking to a family who's flight had been delayed, they had been at the airport for nearly 5 hours :earseek: Another good reason for leaving it as long as you possibly can.

I am one of those terrible people who lives in fear of being late for things, LOL so invariably we are at the airport about 3 hours before flight (even when we have done DTD check in).

I know it's ridiculous but I always worry the car might break down, we might get lost .... etc etc.

Me too

But this year I am determined we won't wander aimlessly around DTD, then mini golf but will spend a good few hours in a park or water park. Since we're flying back on a Tuesday, the water park might be a good option since it might not be so busy as a weekend . . . but in all our trips to Typhoon Lagoon I've never noticed shower facilities since we head straight back to our hotel. Are there facilities to get properly showered etc?

Me too, me too :) And I'm with Carl that once I've checked out I just want to go! A noon flight would suit me much better.
It wouldn't matter where I went on the last day, I'd never settle, so I figure sitting in the airport people watching and with a good book is as pleasant a way as any of finishing a holiday.

Can't remember at all!! remember there being quite large changing rooms so I suppose there were showers, .... anyone????

I seem to remember showers in the changing rooms at Typhoon Lagoon but I'm not entirely sure! There must be...mustn't there??? I'm doubting myself now!!

We usually leave the hotel, and make way for some food, and have a drive around taking it all in for the last time and then make our way to the airport,I would prefer just a flight straight afterwards I hate the waiting, it makes me not want to go home :rotfl: Especially when you see people arriving at the airport and your leaving......

My DH is just like Carl too :guilty:
On the last day of any holiday he's in going home mode :confused3 He's focused on getting to the airport in lots of time and cannot see past that.we've wasted so many 'last' days it gets me mad :rolleyes1

What I've tried to do with holidays in Europe if I can is book a morning flight home. That way we go early so arrive and have the whole day if poss, but coming home try to time it we get up,get ready and go to airport!

From Orlando I just do my best to make something of the last day.Like others although we do DTD check-in,he still wants to get to the airport early. So in Feb he listened to me and we left it much later than the 3 hours we usually do,and only just made it in time.so I guess from now on it will be his way!! :rolleyes1

LOL Karen, it's exactly this sort of story that makes me stick to my paranoia of getting to the airport far too early! Though I know I end up wasting valuable WDW time :(

Im also in the "Must get to the airport ASAP" camp. I could never ever do a park on my last day- too many What Ifs (i.e What If the tram broke down?, What If there was a traffic jam? What If we had an accident?). The last day for me is a waste. I want go home as quickly as possible, which is why I book the earliest flight back I can (usually the Virgin 18.05). We tend to visit a mall and have lunch, but that is the limit of our excitement!

When the kids are bigger, we plan to do non direct flights via New York, so we can leave Orlando early in the day and connect to an afternoon flight in NY. Its cheaper and suits my "lts the Last Day I want to go home NOW" mentality! Ooooh, but What If we miss the connecting flight...? Allright I will shut up now!
