We're in the process of buying 210 pts at BCV and hope to close by late May. We've got a res at POFQ for Aug 16-23, but we are SOOO itching to use DVC and pool-hopping, and we know we'd have to split our stay.

If we call MS in late May/early June, what are the chances of even getting a studio for our dates, even if we split among several resorts (we only have 114 pts to use for 2008 & don't want to borrow next year's pts)?

Also, what is your upper limit of resort hops before it becomes a hassle?

TIA!!!

I think more than 2 hops would be a real hassle. (IMHO)

Consider packing your bags with different bags for different days. We've often stayed off property on our 1st night and just had our next day clothes in the over night bag. That allowed us to keep the other bags packed and in that case still in the car.

Some people really love pools. For me 1 hop is too much. :drinking1

Bummer - I thought this was going to be a thread about beer.

Anyway, I'm normally a big fan of seeing lots of resorts. I once had a 3-night 3-resort vacation in Vegas. But I would suggest no more than one hop for you.

POFQ is a beautiful resort. Now that you are in DVC, you probably won't stay there again - meanwhile; you've got a lifetime in the DVC resorts. I know you are itching to put your DVC to use, so it might make sense to move for a couple nights into DVC. But I'd spend most of your time at POFQ.

POFQ is our favorite non-DVC resort (except it would be better if they had Q-beds instead of just doubles). We were staying there when we bought into DVC.

As for hopping, I just can't bear to unpack and pack and unpack and pack, so any hops is too much for me. But then the most we ever stay is 5 nights... and when we travel, we sometimes are in a different place every other night, so I guess it's not any different. The only thing I would consider is that when you hop, you effectively lose use of your room for the day (supposing your check out of one place early so you can go to the parks but cannot get into your room at the next place until after 4 p.m. because of cleaning, etc.).

We had to change rooms at OKW once because our original room had too many issues -- we really noticed how much we missed the use of the room that day when we wanted to go back at lunch for a rest but were unable to get to our new room. Plus we had refrigerated items that we had to store at bell services and thus lost access to them for the day (couldn't see us going there just to make a sandwich and grab a yogurt).

Just some thoughts.

The packing and unpacking is one issue. You can lose up to a half day in the parks or doing something else. If you go to a park in the AM and don't return to the evening then you don't lose as much. I don't like changing at all. Our first DVC stay we moved twice. It was the only we could do our trip.

One hop is plenty. We've done 2 hops, but it was a real PITA getting stuff moved that often. It was a big hassle and took up waaay too much vacation time.

If you were moving within a resort, it might not be be so bad. I'd keep it to just one resort change if at all possible.

I find hopping enjoyable when the hop is a hop to VB! So I'd suggest staying POFQ, then hopping to VB for one or two nights, and ending up at a WDW DVC. Pay cash at POFQ for your weekend nights.

Must say, We have never done it and don't plan to.
Seems like too much of a hassle.
We use the pool were we stay only.
On the other side of things thou, we have room hopped in middle of stay so did get to use more then one pool in a trip.

We are switching resorts this Sept. We are staying at CBR for Fri and Sat to save points and switching to BCV Sun- Thurs. My DH was not thrilled with the idea but went along with it. This will be our first time switching resorts and if it doesn't go well it will be our last!

I hope it goes smoothly as we only have 175 point contract and hate to waste our points on weekends!
