Now...I would probably AVOID THE PARKS COMPLETELY. So having said that....how is the DVC experience during a major holiday if you avoid the parks? I heard this past Christmas week was packed packed packed BEYOND PACKED. How are the resort pools and such??? Thanks .

If it's cool there is plenty of room at the pools! <g> I've spent a few xmas's and it's always been a bit cool. So no crowded pool to worry about. The resorts are definitely busy, but still enjoyable.

I stayed at VWL at New Years...the main pool was crowded but the quiet pool was empty...I believe this mainly had to do with it being cool however the hot tub was fine. We went to Universal instead of WDW except for New Years Eve at MGM. NYE would have been great if we had stayed longer.
The parked emptied out quite a bit at midnight and the wait times were short. But we only lasted another hour.

My opinion is that if you manage your park time carefully it could be pretty good. However I probably will never dedicate a full vacation to WDW at that time of the year.

We have gone the past two years during NYE and last year during the 4th of July week. NYE is crazy packed everywhere, but Disney is all decked out for the holidays. We go to the parks early, like up before the roosters early. Take long breaks during the day. But we really have a good time inspite of all the people. Its no more nutter then going to Time Square. The NYE celebrations are awesome too.

We have already booked our room for this year at NYE again!

We were at VWL this past December 23-30. The DVC experience was awesome! We did go to the parks but really didn't try to go on a lot of attractions. Wandered around, did some FastPass and mostly enjoyed the ambiance of the season.

The pools were not crowded at all while we were there...it was mostly fairly cold and rainy so not much interest in swimming for the most part.

So, since we didn't do a lot in the parks what else did we do? First of all, we enjoyed a lot of lazy time in the villa. Many, many times we mentioned to each other how we wouldn't have enjoyed the trip nearly as much if we were in a regular resort room. We visited other resorts to see their decorations, especially GF and BWV. We had some very nice meals and focused on the "holiday only" things such as Osborne Lights, the MK Christmas Parade and Candlelight Processional.

It was a great experience, and something that is much better with DVC because we knew we'd be heading back soon enough and didn't worry about missing things in the parks. :)

We arrived mid week between Christmas & New Years.

Never did a park but that was our plan.

Stayed at SSR and it never felt crowded, the main pool had the most people but still was fine, always found a lounge chair or two. The quiet pools were still quiet.

Visited the Community Hall on various occasions for activites and crafts and was shocked that we were still a few of the only ones in there.

We stayed until Jan 12, there was definatly less people then but the holidays didnt scare us away as we are going back for them this year :)
