when it's not medically possible?? Meaning.. he has had a vascectomy and your not supposed to be able to get pregnant?! And you KNOW your spouse is completely faithful! Still possible for a few sperm to get thru after a few years??

A friend of mine was debating it with me!! I think it might be possible, she says no way unless the spouse was unfaithful. But I knew of someone it happened to.

Anyone out there have an opinion on this?!

Me, it is possible. The doc that "fixed/broke" my h told us so. He said it is possible for several reasons of which I don't remember.

Yes, I have heard of this. I saw on a talk show (Montel???)once where a gentleman had had a vasectomy several years before but somehow a virile swimmer had snuck through and impreganated his new girlfriend. (It was a paternity test show.)

Yep! Happened to my buddy at work!

He was "snipped" many years ago. Remarried now, 52 years old, dreaming of retirement, and .... SURPRISE!

(And yes, the little one is his. :teeth: )

It certainly shocked him and his DW, and changed the planned course of their life.

The little one is a gorgeous, bright and very loved little charmer.princess:

seems like most of the people I've heard of this happening to didn't go back after the snip to have the test to make sure it worked.

Knew a couple when DS was little that it happened to. They already had 4 or 5 kid. Ican't remember if baby amde 5 or 6. She said he never doubted the baby was his. When he went back to have the V redone the Dr said that other than one tiny scar you would have never know that one of the tubes had been cut.

I have a good friend who is now 22 weeks PG when she was told it was impossible to get PG again because of a very bad case of indometriosis. She had one ovary and tube removed 2 yrs ago to try to keep her fertile but pain free. After 1 1/2 yrs of failure they decided she was too scarred to get PG again and she decided to have a hysterectomy because of the pain she was in. In fact it was at her pre-op appointment for her hysterectomy that they found out she was PG.

Failure rates of vasectomy. Looked that up recently. ;) You'd be surprised! They should be tested from time to time to be sure it's still effective. And after 10 years, it's more prevalent for failure to occur. Try a search on the web.

It hits close to home for me. My brother got his ex-girl friend pregnant. She was told by doctors that she'd never be able to conceive, so of course they didn't use any protection. I don't know specifically what her medical condition was that she wasn't able to have children, but reguardless what doctors tell you, always use protection just incase!!!

By the way, she ended up having twins, one boy one girl. The boy died within 20 hours after birth.

I know someone it happened to that had her tubes tied. Or I should say tube. She only had 1 fallopian tube and it took her and her DH 10 yrs to get preganat with the 1st. Then she had 2 more after. She got her tube tied and surprise, she got pregnant again. Her DS is 8 now.

Even men with complete vacestomies can produe some sprem, just not enough (usually) to result in impregnation. I know of a case where a serial rapist had a vasectomy as an attempt to keep from being identified through DNA- it didn't work. Enough sperm can get through to allow DNA identification.

Yes, I've heard of it happening, but not to me.

There's a rumor going around the neighborhood that this just happened to 1 of our neighbors!

A couple of friends of ours were going through some tests because they thought the wife had a tumor. The hubby had a vas nearly 9 years before... Well... it turned out that the tumor was a baby boy! Yes, it can happen!!

A friend at work was told that the only way she would ever be able to get pregnant was through invitro fertilization. She ended up getting divorced before she could ever try it and a year or two later had a boyfriend. It was quite a shock when she ended up pregnant, since she trusted the doctors when they said there was no way she was ever going to get pregnant the traditional way.

Gabrielle and Olivia are proof. Two years after DH vasectomy, I ended up pregnant with Gabrielle. In our case, we were quite grateful as we had regretted the vas anyway due to religious and other reasons. :D

There was a case about 20 years ago in the Pittsburgh area about a couple who had gotten pregnant. She had had her tubes tied and he had had a vasectomy. They tried to have an abortion but the doctor screwed it up and the baby was still born.

Sure it can happen. It happened to relatives of mine. He had a vasectomy but didn't go in for the follow up appointment. The wife went away on business for a few days, not long after that she was pg. The husband accused her of fooling around while she was away because he just knew he didn't get her pg. Thankfully they got that straightened out. Child #4 is now 13 y/o.

Sometimes it does rectify itself, which is a bit of a shocker for the bloke.

Probably not as shocking as it is for the woman though...

OMGOSH it is TOTALLY posible!! I have known FIVE couples that the man had a V and they still got PG afterwards... totally faithful. I have a friend who had 3 babies after her dh had a V.

It happens ALL the time!

Been there, done that. Less than a year after I had my tubes cut and tied I had a tubal pregnancy. First ER doctor told me I had a viral infection and sent me home. Talk about excrutiating pain!!!!!! The next ER doctor did a pregnancy test and then an ultra sound.....about 10 minutes later I was in surgery.

I have a cousin that was told she couldnt conceive and they adopted a little girl. Less than a year later she got pregnant and then had her tubes tied after their son was born. A couple years later she got pregnant again with another boy.
