Hello
We will be getting a DAS for my almost 3 year old son who happens to have down sydrome. I thought I saw it only works for 6? We are traveling with me(dad) his 3 other brothers, his sister, his 2 little cousins, his aunt, and grandma and grandpa. So a total of 10, how would that work as we dont really want to always seperate? Also can it be used to help alleviate the wait for the anna/elsa meet and greet? We were unable to get fastpasses to it, so how would the das work?

Thanks

They can make the DAS for more in certain circumstances, but seeing that your 10 isn't immediate family and 4 over the limit I don't know if they will. You can ask. If they want you'll have to pick and choose people for it on each ride.

You can use it for Anna and Elsa.

Ithink you will have to split up as you have 4 over the limit but you can try at GR

You'll be split up for most things anyways - there are very few ride vehicles that fit ten, so there will be a wait anyways. Some of your party can get in the standby queue when you get the return for the DAS, and technically you should be getting to the ride vehicles at about the same time.

You will also have to split up for any attraction the DAS holder (your son) will not be riding, as in most attractions with a height requirement, etc. The DAS only works if the DAS holder is going on the ride.

I'd also guess that your son will nap at some point, and others may want to go do stuff while he sleeps? Will he nap in a stroller or are you planning to go back to your room?

Traveling constantly in a group of 10 is really hard - I think you might want to rethink your plans, to a point?

You also need to be prepared to explain to Guest Relations why your son needs the DAS - saying he has Down Syndrome most likely won't suffice, as different people with the same diagnosis may not need the same accommodations. You'll need to be able to explain why he can't wait in the regular line.

Have a great trip!

Yes, the OP would need to have a reason why using the standard queue wouldn't be accessible for his child. I'm thinking a stroller as wheelchair tag might be even more useful than a DAS (but youcan have both, it's not exclusive).

So I had no problems extending it to eight, but every circumstance is different. I have special needs twins, but my husband, Mom, and grandmother all also had mobility devices and the twins stroller was tagged as a wheelchair, leaving me, my Dad and my cousin to push/assist. In our case it really was imperative we stay together.

It's possible they would put you all on the pass, but unlikely given you have a number of extended family members with you that are both adults and children. It doesn't hurt to ask, but I suggest you plan your vacation and prepare your family accordingly for the additional family members NOT being included.

We traveled last Nov with 10 people in our party (5 over our immediate family). They were not added to our pass and it did cause a different level of planning.

We traveled with a lot of family this summer and had no problem adding 10 to my son's pass. I asked nicely at guest relations, fully expecting to be turned down, but they didn't bat an eye. Most of the return times were for only some of our party, but we did request all 10 occasionally and never had an issue. It was great for him to be able to ride with all his cousins, and really more than we had hoped for.

So a total of 10, how would that work as we dont really want to always seperate?

1) Asking for ten people is possibly a little selfish.
2) I can see the immediate family, but everyone else?
3) Not trying to be overly critical, but (IMHO) large parties should be separated when granted special access.
. . . it does not seem fair to others.
. . . your need to split up is one of preference.
. . . other large groups would certainly not like to split up either. *
4) This was part of the reason they went from GAC to DAS.
5) For the most part ADA/DAS should allow ACCESS, not EXCESS.

* Prior to retirement, we would come down as groups of 8-17 people. We almost always had to split up. Really not a bad situation.

it also should be painted out that most ride vehicles do not hold 10 people ( space holds 6 peter pan holds 3 toy story holds 6 to 8 ) I think that if the ride vehicle only holds a limmited number of people then you should limit your self to that number if a ride vehicle holds more 7DMT RnR TOT then maybe do the hole group

this is just my opinion

We have not had an issue extending beyond the 6. Just ask at GR. Feel free to PM me and I can share more of our experiences. For our son, this program really works, and has made for some very enjoyable times for him, in being able to experience his favorite place with others that he loves.

Anything over 6 is an exception and needs to be approved by a Lead/Supervisor (it is possible that you may not 'see' this because the CM assisting you may be the Lead).
There are many reasons a larger group may be necessary - for example, 2 parents with 5 children or a group with extended family such as grandparents.
There may be times when you are asked to split into a group of no more than 6 - this is usually situations where you are boarding in a different area or where there is limited space.

My husband and I have 8 children all 14 and under and two with pretty significant disabilities. Under DAS when we went we had no problems getting approved for 10. Given the needs and ages of our kids, separating and having each parent solo with a set of kids is not practical. There are a few exceptions, like we've had medical emergencies pop up that one of us went to take care of but we don't separate as a rule of thumb.

The only place where we had trouble with a party over 6 people was at the International Gateway to Epcot. The CM there would not allow us to have more than 6 and in fact purposely left off a 5 year old child and told us to just try to push the attraction to let her in with us. Obviously this did not work and CM's at DHS fixed it for us.
