We've rented the bikes at the Boardwalk but I would like to up the exercise routine this trip.. not sure when I would be able to squeeze the fitness center into our schedule.

On our last trip, my sister wore a pedometer, and we walked an average of 10 miles a day. I think the lowest was 8 miles and the highest was around 14. We figured that was a pretty good amount of exercise! But I suppose if you wanted more, you could get up extra early and hit one of the fitness centers or the pool before heading out to the parks.

I go to the fitness centers on every trip, you do walk alot at the parks but it isnt a constant fast paced workout like at a gym. A common misconception is that I walk alot at the parks so I am working out and can eat what I want. It not being a faster paced workout that raises your heart rate for atleast 30 consecutive minutes does burn some calories but really doesnt do much in the long run. Mostly just shocks the system of people who do not walk or workout very often, so I try in the mornings before parks or in the evening when we tuck the kids in.

My usual routine at home is to get up early before the kids and get my work-out in first thing, so that is also what I do at Disney. I do give my body a break when I'm on vacation though - usually exercise 5-6 days at week, but at Disney I might only go a couple of times. Recovery is important too!

My DH and I both are avid walkers...we take turns in the morning going out to walk for awhile. It can be SO nice..resorts are quiet, views are always beautiful, no matter where you are. We like staying on our exercise routine, so it works for us.

Let's see....I normally eat quite poorly while there but walk around the parks a lot. I consider it a wash. :rotfl2:

DH runs every morning from OKW to on the path to DTD. My contribution to exercise is to think about him out running.:rotfl:

I get up every morning around 5 am and hit the fitness center for an hour before the rest of the family gets up!

DH's favorite form of exercise at WDW is running. So he will get up early and go for a run.
His favorite WDW running path is around the Boardwalk area, but he also enjoys running at OKW and SSR.

For me, I try to get in some swimming laps, but if I don't it's no big deal to me.

That's what I was going to say - - with all the walking you do, I personally don't think that a separate trip to the gym is necessary. We use our vacations to indulge and not worry about counting calories or getting in exercise 4-5 times per week (which is how we life in "real life"). Now, on a cruise I've been sorely tempted to hit the gym, but have never actually done so. However, again on a cruise, I wouldn't hesitate to go to the gym if I was feeling particularly icky. To each his own, though. :goodvibes

We have used the fitness center at SSR in the past (a fantastic facility, by the way). During our stay at BWV next week I plan on doing some running. Anyone interested in running & walking trails at the resort, here is a website that outlines trails with distances, http://www.disneyrunning.com/index.html. :thumbsup2

As I aim to eat my own body weight each day of my trip, I try and get to the gym most days. I get up early and mainly do cardio to burn those calories! Its also quite nice to start the day with a sauna or the steam room.popcorn::

We TALK about it every trip. But once we get there, well, it just doesn't happen.

It's kind of like eating three hamburgers, large fries with gravy and a desert, then ordering diet pop because you want to watch your weight.

I find the secret is pacing yourself. For example I'll go to Epcot and walk to the World Showcase. Since I'm into natural grains I'll get the pub sampler at the Rose n Crown. Then I'll walk to Canada where I'll get purified water, LaBatt's. Then I'll take a brisk stagger to France and, to get the antioxidants for my heart, the wine tasting. Then, to really get my heart pumping at an aerobic rate, I'll make my way to Morocco, get a Rose Tea, and watch the belly dancer performing with Mo Rockin' then I'll make my way to . . .

Being on gym is good but me and my cousins prefer to swim. Swimming can help you lose fat and it can make you fit. Swimmers have a really good bodies.

Thank you for the great tips (even the comical ones :rotfl:)

Although it's not top priority, I think a nice bike ride or morning walk around the BW would be great. Exercise gives me more energy and I love the BW in the morning ~ the music and the beautiful view of the lake.
