How Many Employees

The company I own 12.5 percent of has 53 employees, total. 8 of us started it back in 2004...

Right now, it's about perfect size for the work we have.

There are disadvantages to working for a national company, especially here in California where our labor laws and benefit needs seem so different than the rest of the nation. My last job, were were the only location in California. Corporate had to put out a 15 page supplement to the Employee Handbook just for us, because some of their policies were actually felonies here. For example, if you resigned with less than 14 days notice, you lost any vacation time you had on the books. A co-worker gave 13 days notice, and was told he would not be paid for his 4 weeks of vacation on the books. He did a little research, pointed out there was a $10,000 fine in California for doing that, that the boss could be subject to criminal prosecution, and that he could civially sue them for punitive damages equal to 10 times the value of the vacation time, plus his legal costs. He got a check for his vacation time on the spot.
Yeah, I'm not seeing the disadvantage of working for a national company... I see it as a disadvantage of working for a company that doesn't know (or doesn't care about) the laws it is subject to. The smaller the company the worse they seem to be in that regard, afaic. I live in Massachusetts, so I know how its labor laws are indeed more employee-biased than average, but the large companies I've worked for here (including a multi-national) never had an inkling of a problem with regard to complying with state law in their dealings with me, while I have had a problem with regard to compliance with state labor laws while working for the small company that I referred to earlier, a company that was not only based in Massachusetts, but operated solely within the confines of what the folks living there affectionately refer to as the People's Republic of Cambridge.

Does the company you work for Employ ? Would you like it bigger or smaller ?

200-300 , I like that size

The company I work for has about 1300 employees. Only 10 in my location. There's rarely more than 2 of us there at the same time. We have a staff meeting of all 10 of us once a quarter. Oh, and we are unionized.

Over 100,000 just in the U.S. Not sure how many in other countries. I work at corporate so we have the largest # of employees here.

ETA- Not sure how the thumbs down got there and I can't delete it! LOL

The company I work for has ~15,000 worldwide. I like it. We have a lot of benefits that a smaller company may not afford. The company I used to work for had ~50,000 employees worldwide- they spun off the division I worked for a we merged with the current company.

The company DH works for has ~24 employees. He likes it because he reports directly the owner of the company.

Over 125,000 worldwide in over 100 countries. I work at the US headquarters and all told in all the locations in Houston there are about 10,000. Fortunately it does not always feel that big as I know a lot of folks in my location and deal with others all across the US and some overseas as well. We benifit because the stated corporate goal is to compensate and treat all employees equally around the world so we benifit from some perks offered in other countries that not all US workers get. We have both a pension plan and a 401(k) along with discounted stock purchase plans and reasonably good health care options.
