My DS 8 would like to bring his portable DVD player and his Nintendo DS on the plane. Is this too much? Will he even be able to use them? What do we have to do with them at the security check?
:scared:

DS6 usually brings just the gameboy with him. Last trip to DL from NJ DH and I let him bring the portable DVD due to the length of the trip. DS left behind his case of DVD's (ack) on the plane. Usually we check under the seats and clean any wrappers/papers we might have left behind. The one time we didn't....

I think it depends on the trip. How much the battery holds up on the player. He wound up using the gb more than anything.

We take Nintendo DS for DD and a small Disney movie thingy. It plays Disney movies and Disney music cartridges.

He should be fine. We take more electronics than that with us each time we fly and have never had any problems. We just have them in our carry-on bags and security screening at the airport has always gone smoothly and they've never asked us to turn anything on.

He will be able to use both once the plane reaches a certain altitude (about 5 mins after takeoff) and he'll have to turn them off when the plane's descending.

You should have no problems with security at all. We've brought portable DVDs player, digital camera's, gameboys, PSP's etc and had no problems. Not all at the same time though. ;)

Truthfully, depending on how long your flight is, the DS may be enough. As stated previously, you cannot use electronics at the beginning and end of the flight. The only time we were able to use the DVD player was during our 3 hour flight from Boston to Orlando.

You'll be fine.

We went to WDW about 2 months ago. Here's what we carried:

1 portable DVD player
1 PSP (Playstation Portable)
1 Leapster
1 MP3 Player
1 Portable CD player
1 dSLR Camera
2 Cell Phones
1 Laptop
Assorted cables for all

Had them all in one or two bags that we carried on and had absolutely no issue. At most, they may have asked us to open the one bag, took a quick look and sent us on our way.

On the plane the DVD Player, PSP, Leapster, MP3 Player and CD player were all used.

ditto on the you'll be fine. I take enough electronics to start my own store...

2 laptops
2 mp3 players
2 digital point and shoot cameras
1 dSLR
1 miniDV video camera
2 cell phones
1 ninDS
assorted cables and chargers, battery chargers & I am sure I am forgetting stuff.

You'll be totally fine. Like others we brought a ton of electronics and they didn't even bat an eye at us. We brought:

2 MP3 players
1 Laptop
2 Leapsters (w/games)
1 Gameboy Adv
1 SLR camera
2 Point and shoot cameras
1 Video camera

plus all the batteries, cables, chargers, etc.

We had it all in one bag, we only had to take the laptop out of the bag and the rest was fine. Good luck and have fun!

Just wanted to add something: We normally carry loads of electronics as well, and have only had to take the laptop out of it's bag. When we traveled this past weekend from Denver to Newark, they made us take both DVD players out of their bags as well. I was not expecting it, and so I was not pleased. We'd finally gotten security down to a science! :-) I told the security agent that we'd never had to take our DVD players out before, and she gave me some song and dance about it being "new within the last three weeks." I think she was full of it, because we flew the other direction two weeks prior and never had to take the DVD players out.

I will certainly take them again (and every time we travel with our kids) but just wanted to give you the heads up. Who knows if this was a legit screening or if she just wanted to give me grief, but I wanted to pass it along just in case. In fact - I think I might post a thread asking if anyone else has had to remove their DVD players lately . . . :-)

Happy traveling!

WOW  And i thought I was going to be bringing too much next WDW vacation in 2008. I am going to bring a P&S Digital (maybe 2), a Mini DV (which I just bought :) ), a PSP, and accessories.

I am humbled by your electronics excessiveness. :worship:

When you kids get older, their toys just get smaller and more expensive. :rotfl2:

My teenage son carries around about $800 worth of electronics and accessories with him on any given day...Nintendo DS with multiple games...ipod...cell phone...so far, he has not misplaced any of them. Now if he could just keep up with his jacket.

I honestly would not worry about it!

Just remember to bring headphones for the DVD and to turn the volume off on the Gameboy or whatever gaming system you bring.

I heard on the news about the portable DVD's being looked at. As long as it keeps us safe, I have no problem showing everything.
