How Many DVC'ers use the Owners Lockers?

We sort of do an Owner's Locker, we just do it on our own. We have a tub very similar to the OL tub. We use it to store all of the items we bring back to WDW with us each time we go. The only difference is that we store it in our basement and just put it in the car when we pack up. There is no packing/unpacking of the tub...it gets packed up at WDW and stays that way until we return to WDW the next time. Since we drive every time I don't see the need to pay someone for something that I can just pop in the car with us.

We keep many of the same items in our tub that other posters do...Band Aids, toiletries, ponchos, zip-loc bags, good cookie sheet, pizza cutter, back pack, etc. We just find it easier (and much less expensive) to do it on our own. Of course if you fly it wouldn't work, but since we drive it's perfect.

I signed up but we don't go on our trip until Feb. I need a extra toaster for DD she as food allergies so I can't use the one in the villa. I will be nice to have things I would like but don't want to lug every time.

In addition to many of the things everyone else is bringing I will also have some playing cards and a few other small games for possible bad weather stays. I have been putting items aside in a small box to fill OL when we go.

This time we are driving (I think) but normally we plan to fly. Flying with some of this stuff could be a pain every time.

IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE LOVES THEM. I just started thinking back to my recent trips and how we shove stuff like paper cups, napkins, plates, into our luggage. We also bring laundry soap and laundry stuff with us and bring it back if there is enough to save. We fly too. SO I think we are a candidate BIG TIME. Thanks

I will have to show my DH this thread, he keeps saying we have no need for the OL. We are going to WDW 2008 & 2009, then its every other year:mad: . He said for the annual fee that we'd pay, it just wouldn't work out for us, and thinks they look small. I even made a list of items that we could fill it with, and he still doesn't "buy" it, CAN YOU SAY......PARTY POOPER:sad2: .

Okay I just did it. There is a deal right now. The membership is only 45 bucks if you say you learned about it on DIS BOARDS. Plus you get some extra visits thrown in. :thumbsup2 I am excited. Boy we sure could have used this the past two years when we took 3 trips each year. My plan is to buy my stuff for it on arrival day because we always do a grocery stop on the way to the resort with our car service. That way I can also get by with less luggage on our trip down now that airline are charging for 2nd checked bags.

Chances you will NOT ONLY BE GOING EVERY OTHER YEAR STARTING IN 2010 :rotfl: Didn't you see my other thread.....:lmao: I am trying to scale back to once a year starting next summer.

You can always discontinue using it after the first two years if you feel it is not a value to your future vacations.

I agree with him. I think they are very expensive for what you get. But then again, we drive and always have the ability to throw our own tub into the van. Since we have the car we also always make a grocery/sundries run so there would be no need for us to store shampoo/toothpaste/etc. in the locker. If you fly, however, I think it is a very nice service to have, especially with the new fees for baggage.

Hi gang,

If you were serious in wondering about numbers, we're closing in on 1000 Members, most of whom are DVC.

Here's a link to some photos one of our Beta Trial Members took (that's why the Locker is blue):

http://www.ownerslocker.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25

and if you'd like to get an idea of what people store, have a look at this:

And, boy would we have even more Members if we could solve the reluctant spouse issue! Seems like there are lots of couples out there made up of an early adopter and a skeptic!

Some of my trips are solo, as DH has limited time off from work. I normally take the train, so hauling 2 pieces of luggage (LUGage) ;) was getting difficult. (An "old bag" can only haul so many old bags.) :rotfl:

I signed up for OL earlier this year, went to WDW with all my bags, and filled up the locker. Going home, I had one empty suitcase and the other was half full. Now I can just breeze through the train station or airport, without dragging all that stuff. :thumbsup2

Since normally I travel in the fall and winter months, I left a turtleneck and a Mickey fleece in the OL, which was a major pain to drag down there. Now I'll be prepared for any cool temps in December and January!

DH thought OL would be good idea for me, as I am at WDW often. He didn't feel that he'd have any need for an OL--but he is now thinking about things he can leave behind (bathing suit, flipflops, etc.)

I love my OL! :cloud9:

:rotfl: My DH was the same way before we got ours, and as I wrote earlier,I am definitely Queen of Frugal but was drawn to the idea. The deciding factor was that we could cancel if we wanted to. Now:rotfl: DH wants a second one!

Owner's locker needs to let us upload pictures!!! I much rather point shoot, and look than type. lol

Excellent idea -- where's John? ;)

Edited: Oh, I see John already posted in the thread! What do you think John or Brian -- would this be a hard (or expensive) website thing to change?

And I agree -- about the reluctant spouse thing. Maybe you could consider a try it once for free and get your $$ back if you cancel within a certain period of time? Just thinking out loud -- I don't know what current specials or refunds you're already offering (I had no need to look into a refund!!).

I'm here Vicki,

I was playing around with the site to see if it would handle a link to a photo and it won't. You can paste the address of a photo in the on-line inventory but then you'd have to copy and paste it into your browser tool bar. A bit of a hassle.

You can certainly upload photo links on our forums but that's hardly private. I'll have to work on this.

Since we're on this topic I'd like to ask some questions:

1) it seems like OL is an amazing idea for people who are at WDW often. I'm there at least once a year but tend to average once every 9 or so months. I think the annual fee is about $100. is it worth it if i'm going just once ever year? I know airlines are charging $15 -$30 for those bags but if I pack all of my stuff then i only pay for that extra bag

2) does anyone worry about stuff "expiring"? I know things like sunscreen dont last for ever and if you aren't there often I'd worry about this

3) Is this only limited to the WDW/Orlando area? I see someone posted that they went to VB and were met at MCO.

I, too, am a DVC member with an Owner's Locker. I don't have any pictures to share, but I can tell you that I am very happy with this service. It definately eliminates the stress of packing, knowing that all of my essentials are already there waiting for me. I'm a major packrat, so everything that I could possibly need is already waiting for me. So, all I have to worry about is throwing some clothes in a suitcase, and off I go! Love, love, love Owner's Locker.

We worried about that, too, but it's amazing how much of what we have stored really has nothing to do with an expiration date and yet is REALLY needed in our "home".: salt & pepper, plastic zip bags, alum foil, band aids, moleskin, feminine hygeine products, water bottles, change of clothes (just in case), laundry detergent, extra mouse for the laptop, phone charger, scissors, aloe vera, pizza cutter, paper napkins, Mickey rain ponchos, small umbrella, coffee filters, Q tips, disposable razors, etc. We have a lot more than that, but just can't remember it all just now.

Frankly, I hated dragging things back and forth (like coffee filters, which we don't need at home). I felt worse about buying things and discarding the remains - I hate waste. Our OL solves the problems.

Hi John and Fellow OL,

Ha! Thanks to this thread, we just signed up for OL:banana: .Thanks for all the great packing ideas.....next, can we work on getting my DH to go to WDW EVERY year instead of everyother?;)

Thanks again,
Catie:flower3:

Welcome aboard, Catie! Glad to have you as a new OL Member.

mdp, the real advantage of Owner's Locker is that it allows you to have things with you at your resort that you'd NEVER haul back and forth. We have loads of Members who only come once per year--or even every other year.

I really don't think stuff going bad is much of an issue. We tried the concept out for 4-5 years and found it was no more of a problem than at home.

We are just in Orlando but you don't have to stay here to get your Locker. As long as you pass through Orlando by car or plane on your way to Vero, DCL or the beaches, we'll get your Locker to you. You just tell us what your plans are when you schedule your Visit and we contact you to set something up that's mutually convenient.

John
