I was looking and I can't seem to find this. I KNOW it's not a great use of points, but DH wants to know, so I'm asking.

I know there's a $95 fee.
I know to book like 2 years ahead.
Do I have to have my MF paid in advance?
I know there's no guarantee.
I know that cancelation means very restricted use of unused points.

If we did this, it would be rare. Also, we're not looking to buy an additional "tradable" timeshare. We just want DVC to be used for our vacation. It will mostly be WDW, but we like options.

TIA

Here is the World Passport Collection point chart:

Studio. 106 Low/123 Mid/134 High
1 BR.... 124 Low/144 Mid/160 High
2 BR.....207 Low/252 Mid/270 High
3 BR.....276 Low/317 Mid/349 High

In most cases, I'd assume that the resort will be High season for planning purposes. If they end up being less you can always be pleasantly surprised! The seasons are decided by the individual resorts.

Maintenance fees need to be current, but not paid in advance.

It's best to plan as far ahead as possible - starting searches at least 1 year in advance will offer the best results.

Good luck! :)

You may find THIS thread helpful. You need to understand the system before depositing. As a rule, I would not deposit first for anything other than 160 or 270 points and you should assume that those will be your costs for most exchanges for a 1 or 2 BR respectively. IMO it's possible to get a reasonable value in return for DVC exchanges only in certain circumstances. That means investigating the exchange options, planning ahead and being willing to fail or bail on a given exchange request.
