I was just curious because I've read somewhere that it's not worth it to become a DVC member if you live on the west side, and I was just wondering why?

So, how many of you are members who live in the western half of the U.S., and how is your DVC membership working out for you?

Depends on what you call the "western half". If you mean anything west of the Mississippi, then I would be one of those, and it's working great! LOL, of course I am just barely west of the Mississippi, since it divides our twin cities!

I live 20 mins from DisneyLAND, is that west enough?

We took our first trip to WDW in Aug, came back and did research(here) for a week and then drove to DTD(CA) and purchased 200 points.

We will be going back in 2006 and then maybe every other year after that. Do not plan on any exchanges, Might do Disneyland Paris if points required do not get too out of control in 2007/8.

Even if DVC does a Disneyland(CA) resort I doubt I would ever use points for a stay, unless it is a use them(points) or lose them type of stay.

We are really considering buying another 200, so we can give each kid(ages 13,15) 200 points later on(much later, for the grand kids.).

I'm pretty close to Anewman, as in I'm about 30 minutes south of Disneyland. We just purchased our contract. We've been married for 11 years, and if you look below, you can see how many times we've gone to WDW. To us, it's totally worth it.

We contemplated 3 years ago, and it's always been in the back of our minds. The SSR deal with extra years combined with available cash sealed the deal for us.

Was wondering the same thing. We live in Colorado, but we're in and lovin' it! Maybe we'll retire there..never know :wave2:

I live in Sacramento and we like it. We don't go every year and I know many say it isn't worth it if you don't go every year. But we go every other year and we like having a kitchen. Plus, we go for longer periods of time like 10 days. It is working for us. I doubt we'll ever use it for trade. We own other timeshares for that. But it is important for us to stay onsite. But buying is just prepaying for your vacation. I doubt we saved much by buying.

San Jose, California here. Members since 2000 and have enjoyed many trips back since then. Wife and I love DL and visit often for a quick fix (5 hour drive), but can't go more than 2 years without returning home to the world. No regrets at all.

from the east....as east as you pretty much can go....eastern long island, NY

Funny you should ask. We're in Colorado and JUST bought.Like today.
We'd been talking about it and we go down every year in October for kid's fall break, and the deal with 12 more years and the 15% discount sealed it for us.

We can be there in 3 1/2 hours, nonstop, so the travel time is not a big deal for us.

Even more western, and northern too!

I believe there's a couple of families up here in Alaska that own. (just a couple tho)

And it works out great! We love WDW, and can't wait to go back again and again and again. ( I think that's what you need to look at, not how far but how often)

You really are our neighbor..in Colorado and Orlando! We are in Aurora, just a stone's throw from Englewood. Congratulations!! :wave2:

We're originally from California (up in the northern Sierras). We bought while living in AL and the FL area and now live in FL - but we plan on retiring on the West side of the country - either in northern CA or Oregon - and that will only be about 13 years from now - so we'll certainly have a lot of DVC years left once we move back out that way!

Also from CA, and I originally heard about DVC from a colleague of mine who bought while in FL. I think you will see a lot more people buying from out here now that DVC is stationed inside Disneyland. A lot of people out here were not even aware DVC existed, as it was not advertised or published anywhere. And with no CA DVC resorts, many thought there was no reason to buy. WDW is definately a different experience than Disneyland, and we enjoy going to Florida fo a little different kind of Disney fix.

Well, Alaska is further but we're next in line aside from those in BC - we are in WA state. I agree that it is more about how often you are going to go than it is about where you are coming from. We used to go to Disneyland every year but after going to WDW twice we just knew that we would be there more often. Of course, I would definitely LOVE a DVC in CA. That would be really cool.

We're in Salt Lake City, but I grew up in Florida. We go at least twice a year - usually more like three or four trips - so DVC was a natural for us.

30 minutes east of Disneyland here. Actually bought DVC before even visiting WDW.

We're in Elk Grove, CA south of Sacramento so we purchased a 100 point contract to go every two or three years depending on how many family members go with us.

We are in Highlands Ranch, CO and own at both VWL and OKW. Our kids are on a year round schedule so we try to get to Florida at least twice a year when they are off track. They are off in October and January so we usually get to go when the crowds are low!

I am the first from the Portland area to respond. I know there are a few DVCer's around this area.

We bought in 2002 and have used our points for at least 8 vacations that I can think of already with 2 more in the thought process for 2006! :cool1:

We LOVE our DVC points so much we have already added on twice! :cool1:
