"everything is better in DL."
I think that most people are talking about the rides themselves. It's pretty much agreed upon that many of the DL originals are better than the clones at MK. POTC, IASW, BTMRR, HM, Toontown, almost all of Fantasyland are among the ones that come to mind right away. Both resorts (yes, DL is a resort, even if it is smaller) have thier good and not so good qualities. WDW has about a dozen more places onsite to stay than DLR. It has more parks, it is a more immersive experience because you never have to leave the resort for anything. On the other side of the argument, DLR is within walking distance of many offsite hotels for travellers on a budget. People wanting to go to WDW on a tight budget are either at the mercy of offsite transportation or monitor the boards like hawks for the elusive $79 a rate at a Disney value resort. Another issue of transportation... The last two trips, I saw DEP at DCA, then walked over to DL to watch Believe. There was about 15 minutes from the end of the parade to the start of the fireworks. I made it with 12 minutes to spare. It would be impossible to see two shows that close together on the same night at WDW. Then there are also the intangibles. I get a lump in my throat when I see the light on over the Fire Station. Everywhere I walk, I feel Walt's presence (a corny as that may sound). I don't get that feeling at WDW. Someone on another message board put it in a different light once... they said that whenever they visited DL, they thought of Walt Disney. Whenever they visited WDW, they thought of Disney, Inc.
I've seen plenty of people get defensive about the resort they like the most, and there is nothing wrong with that. Some DL fans feel that DL has for too long been the step child of the Disney family (no offense to Steps. I'm one myself). Disney is only now (the last year or so) trying to turn that around and promote DLR as a vacation destination instead of a park for locals.
sters, I hope you have a great time on your trip to CA next year. FWIW, my next trip will be to WDW, and I will have a fantastic time. My 2005 trip will be back to DLR for the 50th Anniversary.
